Rage 3 Blade Expandables

I know this has been discussed before but I figured I would get some fresh opinions on them. I have never shot expandables before but was at BPS tonight and decided to pick up a pack to try this year. For those of you that haveused them before what is your opinion of them? Also is the practice head very accurate compared to the actual heads?

Also forgot to ask if I made the right decision in going with the 3 blade over the 2 blade?

Alright, maybe I will be returning them to the store today. Looks like no one uses these.

yeah, i use 2 blade one less blade to worrie about so i couldent tell you about the 3 blade...the only thing i don't like about them are the have a tendasea to open by them selfs, just by hitting a little tree or anything...but all i do is put rubber band for teethbraces on them and i can wack them against anything andproblim solved

I have test both and for the most part I prefer the 2 blade version. It penetrates better and is more durable.
Here is a link to my review of the 2 blade. http://www.broadheadtests.com/NEWHEADS.html

Just scroll down the page.

2 blade is the way to go brotha. As for the practice tip that baby was flying true for me this weekend
out at my moms.

Think I will give the 3 blade a shot. Never shot them before so they are worth a try. Will probably pick up the 2 blade next time I am at the store to compare!

I bought a pack of the 2 & 3 blade Rage and will be using the 2 blade. The 2 blade is a better head IMO.

Going to test both this weekend but sounds like it already a decided factor that the 2 blade wins hands down!

One thing with the 3 blade is if you don't open them properly the blades will jam together, not a problem with the 2 blade.

I was playing with them lastnight and it was tough to get them lined up right. Had a feeling they might not open all the time.

I like that answer. That's exactly why I use a fixed balde head. No blades to worry about. ;)

AS to the original question, the two blade is definetly the stronger head of the two and would be my choice.

i use the 3 blade and was very impressed.creates a massive entry hole. never shot a deer with them that ran more than 20 yds. ive never had any problems with them butyes they do open quiteeasy ifthe blades get hitbut not "by themselves" just put the rubber band on their right and youl have no problems with them. hands down the best broadhead i have ever shot. flies just like fieldtips and practice heads fly same.

I decided to stick with these for this season. If I have any problem then I will consider going with the 2 blade. Can't wait to let them fly at that first deer! Not to much longer!

Just made the switch... So far I'm happy with the flight of the practic head... I got the 2 blade type... Seems like they are the way to go!!!

2 questions:

1. I'm only shooting 55lbs and currently use a cut on contact blade (Magnus Stinger). Is this possibly too slow for an expandable?

2. I shoot mostly from a groundblind with shoot through mesh. Will the rage open up going through the mesh? I have heard some will and others will not.

I usually don't hunt from a blind but I have been wondering the same thing. I am planning on hunting from my blind a little more this year cause I want to get my daughter out in the woods with me.

Unless you've got some dental floss tied around them in the center, yes. They will most definetly open going through the mesh. I'm honestly not sure I would trust them even w/ the floss....

You can't shoot expandables through shoot through mess windows. The blades will deploy.

I am not sure what kind of arrow speed you need to shoot a Rage or any expandable.

LMFAO......ditto on the fixed blades:D For me, I could careless ifthey made holes big enough to put a grapefruit through, I wouldn't shoot them or any expandable head. If you place the arrowright, they will go down.

I'm getting some 2 blades, ever since the 3 blade recall, I think everyone went to 2 blade and has loved them. Not sure how they do now, but once something gets a bad rap, its hard to live down.

Most guys I knoew that have used the real tips vs practice, end up just using field tips since they shot the same in their opinion.

That's just not entirely true. Most Rocket broadheads work perfectly fine. As do a couple of others.

Thanks for sharing.............you can stick with your fixed heads and I'll stick with the head (Rage 2-blade) that arguably is the most devastating head and puts them down quick!

The Rage is about the most simple head to use. As long as you lock the blades down they will NOT open in flight and they will open everytime on impact.

Well thank you for sharing ;)

So let me see, screwing on a fixed head isn't simple? No rubber bands toadjust, no worry if blade(s) willfunctionandbelieve it not, they fly exactly the same as my field points. If yourbow, your arrow andbroad heads are tuned right and you know how to shoot; you should never have an issue. NowI can understandthat you like them and thatfeel they’re the best thing around and that'sgreat! I hope they continue to be a Gob send for you.

However, if you look at most of thetalk about expandable (not just Rage) heads, it always the same issue....didn't open or opens upbefore it hits the target.Doesn’t matter which the case maybe, it all boils down to unreliable. My fixed heads or any of the broad heads put out havenever beenrecalled, always right on and never a worry about functioning correctly and at only 1 1/6” (no need for 2” blades) cutting diameter, they are arguably is the most devastating head and puts them down quick!
