Broadheads for Small Game

Does anyone have information on the type of broadheads used on squirels and rabbits.
I want to polish my shooting skills for deer hunting!

What manufactures do you recommend? I would like to start practicing before the actual hunting season.

Welcome to the board.

You should be able to pick up the blunts from your Pro Shop.
For rabbits I just use my muzzy' s

I would recomend " judo points" for squirrel size animals. You can get them from most archery shops or on line at cabelas or edersbow. For Rabbits I would go with broadheads. a smaller two blade head would be perfect. Rabbits are bigger and tougher and broadheads will do a better job in my opinion. Blunts or judo points will work on them, but your shot placement will have to be good, not that it doesn' t have to be with a broadhead, but broadheads just do more damage. You may also want to put a " stopper or grasshopper" behind the broadhead to hinder penetration. That will help you recover the Rabbit and make arrows easier to find if you miss.

I have to agree with the Judo points. I would also like to add the NAP Gobbler getters to the list. They do an outstanding job on small critters. I even took a coyote I called in while turkey hunting last spring with one. I got a complete pass through and the dog only went 20 yards be fore it was over. Great head on birds as well.

The best head for squirrels or rabbits is either a muzzy or thunderhead with the blades removed. If your gonna hunt some big fox squirrels leave the blunt head at home. Squirrels around here would laugh at ya:D Seriously , I' ve tried the blunt heads and they work on rabbits and birds but I' ve had big sqirrels take a blunt right smack center and fly 30 feet out of the tree only to get up after a few seconds and run right back up the tree[:o] How many times have ya had a big fox squirrel that you had to shoot more than once with a 22 rifle? Those are some tough critters!
