Need help deciding on string surpressor

I don't know how to make a poll on here but I'm trying to decide on a string surpressor for my new Black Ice. Which of these have the best durability and effectiveness?

A. STS

B. Duravane

C. Rattler

or

D. Other

Thanks in advance

RE: Need help deciding on string surpressor

I bought an SSS system from this website http://www.shawnsarchery.com/. I haven't had any problems with mine. I ordered the non offset type, which wasn't right for my bow, and they replaced it with the offsetfor me with no problem. I think it gives a morecustom look than theSTS system. I also bought thisonebefore I found the MeanV http://www.meanvarchery.exactwebsites.com/meanvcustomstringsuppressor.html. I probably would have bought this one if I new about it. It really looks nice too and at a good price. Fuse also has a pretty nice one out now too, but I don't know what their price is. Fuse is pretty proud of their stuff, so I think it might be more expensive.

There is only one way to go on this and that is the MeanV string suppressor. Get one in the camo of your bow, they are sweet.;) If you have Mossy Oak Breakup on your bow like I do, make sure you select the right camo pattern(the MOBU 3-D for an 07 Black Ice;)).

I second the MeanV. Have one on my Black Ice and it works awesome.

Wow, not a lot of replies but thanks to those who did, MeanV it is!

RE: Need help deciding on string surpressor

I have the HD Gray version. The Mossy Oak looks pretty sweet too.... I've been researching Bowtech and is it just me or does the Black Ice look like a solo cam Tribute? I think that I am going to be removing the string leeches when I get the MeanV suppressor also and get the extra 7 fps, as if I needed it, lol

I have one of these on my bow, forget which one but I think the bigger one, found it at a local shop. Works good and looks nice though the carbon rod based ones may be lighter. Doesn't seem like there is too muchto any of them, so I would pick the one that you like the look of the best. The one I have works great. Hope it helps.

Thanks, I don't know, I may go that route instead. If they sell it at a local archery pro shop then they may even let me try it out? I went to bow rattlers website and played their demo video and I was NOT impressed. I heard a loud slap when he fired it and it was a Black Ice, LOL. Probably would've been in their best interest not to show that video, lol

Frank, I narrowed it down to 3 or 4 bows.:DOOoooo maybe you did that!;)The best thing to do is to ask yourself what you really want and expect out of your bow. Speed? Quietness?, Smooth shot? Smooth draw? Then look for the bow that is most likely to deliver what you are looking for in the order of your priorities.
Or you can just buy 2 or 3!![8D]

MeanV all the way.

I had an STS and I hated it. It looked like crap, and the locking screw wouldn't stay tight. I switched to a MeanV custom dipped in Mossy Oak Obsession to match my bow and I couldn't be happier.

Ok, I'm trying to post a picture of a Black Ice with a Mean V. Hopefully this works, I never posted a pic. before. Anyway it looks as if it came on the bow and using anything else is just settling. Good luck....

I don't know if he still makes them or not but I have vibekiller made by Coolhandluke over on archery talk. I went with the vibekiller because it has some adjustment.

Thanks for the input. I already made my decision to get the MeanV because I've heard too many good things about them from plenty of sources. Besides, from what I hear is that he does a good enough job that it won't need adjusting.

If you want an sts don t drive yourself crazy just buy one from mean v and if your half as happy as i was you will be thrilled.I brought mine to the pro shop today and had ten guys drooling over it.We did a little experament with it on and off noise differnce was huge.My bow makes no noise with it on and not much with it off.

Sweet! I almost gave in and just bought the String Tamer while I was at Bass Pro tonight picking up a quiver but decided not to. I like the clean look and the idea of a bow jax on the MeanV better, plus all of the good reviews.

MeanV sells an awesome string suppressor!!! As stated ealier, he is great to do business with and his product rocks. You won't go wrong getting one of these for your bow. I give nothing but a "thumbs up" for his product! Thanks again Dan!!!!!!! Oh and by the way, the delivery was fast.

got my meanv GREAT one thing the meanv will do 4 you that the sts can't, is put the shot down the center of the back of the bow. the sts will put the pressure of the shot off 2 the side of the bow. This will make a difference on how the bow shoots and reacts to the shot. Iam surprized no one has brought this up yet or i missed it. THANKS DAN

Got it and it looks great on the bow, great job DAN! I'll have to post pics later when I can find the danged camera. I just moved so I have everything still in boxes pretty much. Going to go shoot it tomorrow at the pro shop, I'll let you know what I think.

Get an STS, it has more adjustment than a MeanV. Remember, your speed does depend on where you put an item such as an STS.

Davepjr and I proved it on the range. It was shocking.

Forgot to update this post ( formerly M77man but needed a bowhunting name). The custom string supressor that Dan made for my black ice is perfect and does not need to be adjusted at all. It eliminates and I mean ELIMINATES all string vibration and bye-bye twang sound. I am absolutely enjoying it's stylish good looks, durability, and performance.

I HIGHLY recommend the MeanV string supressor. It also comes with a bowjax and is priced to compete.

I have MeanV on both of my BowTechs and love them. Great service and quality work. I have never used a Rattler, but have seen video reviews of their product and it really seems to do the job.

There is more than ample adjustment for tuning with a MeanV.;)

Both get great reviews and you're right, the string tamer is very good but I personally like the custom job that MeanV does, very Nice....

Sorry,I don't like or care for any string suppressers. They all make a "thump",and in my opinion, transfer vibration directly into the riser.Think about it,all of a sudden, all these bows "have" to have them.To me,I feel it's an design flaw that makes them a manufactors gimmick.Even though I don't shoot a Mathews, they have the only one that I would say is worthwhile. My new Katera XL,after shooting a couple hunderd shots though it,I removed the string suppressor, and with a pair of the right cat whiskers,it's much quieter,no hand shock, just a pleasure to shoot. As a matter of fact,it's quieter than my 07 Commander.I'm not trying to start anything, just my opinion.

It's like I always tell everybody. There are a lot of string suppressors on the market today, look them over and buy the one that appeals to you. Then just enjoy the benefits!! Bottom line is they work!! I get feedback day in and day out, and those that don't see an improvement in their bow is considerably less than 1%:D

Oh, you couldn't be more wrong my friend! Mine completely takes the twang out of the string and there is no thump or smacking sound. Some of them do do that though but not the MeanV or the String Tamer. The Rattler is one, just play one of their cheesy videos and you can hear the loud smack I am talking about, you don't get that with the MeanV. Plus, taking the twang out of the string reduces vibration and transfers an insignificant amount of speed to your arrow. :)
