RE: g5 meta peep and optix se sight
I have not used the Meta Peed, but have a G5 SE 3 pin sight w/ the LED light. I just put it on before xmas (gift to myself). I have done quite a bit of target shooting with it and really like it so far.
What is the adavantage of the Meta Peep vs a regular? |
RE: g5 meta peep and optix se sight
I have the G5 Optix ME and would recommend that over the SE model if you plan on shooting out at distance. You can dial the bottom pin for distances past what ever you have your bottom fixed pin set at. I replaced my fibers with Fitz Fibers and it was well worth it.

I've been thinking about goin to an Optix ME or XR but not too sure how that 4th floating pin works. Can you explain? I cant really find any info on G5's website.

ORIGINAL: armedic1 I've been thinking about goin to an Optix ME or XR but not too sure how that 4th floating pin works. Can you explain? I cant really find any info on G5's website. There's an order for setting up the pins. The sight comes with pictures of the pins set at different velocities. Therefore, you can get close by chronographing your bow and then laying the sight housing over the picture for your approx velocity and adjusting the pins. One thing I found out is that you need to sight the 50 yd pin in first in it's top position or the sight will not work as intended. Follow the instructions for sighting in and you'll be fine. I didn't do that the first time and had to reset all of the pins. I have my pins 20,30,40 and the floating pin is 50 yds in it's highest position. If you needI can scan the instructions (If I still have them) and email them to you or post them here. |

I'll try and remember to bring it into work Wednesday to scan or even Monday if I decide to come to work. The home PC is down. If i do not have it posted Wednesday please PM me telling me to get into gear.
If you'd like it emailedI will need an email addy. You can not send .pdf attachments through the email posted on HNI. Or, at leastI haven't figured out how to do it. |

Info on the Optix XR would be very helpful, looks like a really nice sight...

RE: G5 meta peep and optix se sight
It looks like an upgraded ME. The knob for adjusting the floating pin is much larger and looks to have the yardage tape on it. On the ME the knob is much smaller and you placed the tape along the site housing; which I found to be not that reliable. Especially since your bow would have to be at a specific velocity that they supply for the tape to work as well as the fact that the weight of the arrow effects velocity at greater distances. You can have a heavy and light arrow with the same velocity when chrono'd that will definitely not have the same velocity at 40 yds. I know that a few people say they use the tape that comes with the sight but for my bow it did not work well.
I'm sure that G5 supplies the tape for the same velocities they do for the ME. However, I'm wondering if you couldn't use the tape from a program to be more accurate. |
