Tree Saddle vs Fixed position stand
 

I just purchased a Team Realtree Saddle from Trophyline. I thought it would be ideal for the kind of hunting I do. I hunt public land and what stand I bring in comes out with me. Also, 90% of the trees are not suitable for a climber stand.
What concerns is how akward this thing feels. Maybe it's just part of the learning curve. But, really, other than saving a couple of pounds, what real advantages does this thing have over a fixed position stand? A case of buyers remorse is starting to set in[&o].

Look for a thread started by gzg38 or whatever his user name is (I'm sorry, but you could have picked an easier user name for me to remember!! [8D])

I think a good deal of my problems is that I started practicing setup on trees way too big. Most of the trees on my property are about 50yrs old. But I know a place that does have smaller trees, and that's my hunting area.;)

If you have thoughts of selling, let me know. I am in the process of switching to that type of stand also.

I'm guessing her saddle woudn't fit you. You really need to have a properly fitting saddle or it won't be comfortable at all.

Nope, I'm keeping it.:) My ladder, however, is a pos and it's got to go. I just spent the better part of Friday and Saturday in my saddle. It truly was an issue of becoming more familiar with my equipment.
Any suggestions on a ladder or stacking stix that doesn't weigh a thousand pounds and clank incessantly?

I'm glad your getting used to it.

I listened to everyone else on this forum and got a Lone Wolf Climbing stick. It's the lightest one you can buy (7.5 lbs) and it's just awesome. The three sections nestle together and strap tightly so they don't make any noise when carrying them in the woods. The way I carry them, it's about like carrying a deer rifle on a sling over your shoulder. No big deal.You can get up to about 16 feet with three sticks.

I will have to look elsewhere then;).. Ireally need to get one though, my other climber is a bit noisy to set up. I figure with the saddle, I could set up a dozen different trees preseason and use a climbing stick or two to reach my preset pegs. Do you know of any platform that would attach to the tree to go all around it? That way I could manuver any direction quietly. I may have to make some up if there are none available.
