Looking into a handheld GPS, thoughts?

Hey guys, I'm looking into a small GPS to keep with me while hunting and fishing. I like the one with the satellite imagery but don't want to spend 500 bucks! Looking in the $150 range. Basicly want to be able to mark points and find my way home :)

How are those garmin etrex?

I would pay the extra for the H series. It has a much better receiver than the older eTrex. Both the H series and the Cx series have good receivers. They will hold a position much better in wooded areas.

I have always found OffRoute.com to have good prices and service for GPS units.

Hey Gundeck, thanks for all the info.

In your opinion which would be a better purchase. The etrex H or the etrex legand?

From what I see the diference is a map overlaid? Does it come with a map or is all that stuff I have to purchase after?

It's only a few bucks more, should I get the legand instead.. is it a better overall product?

I have used both the Legend and the GPSMap 60cx. The Legend has a hard time locking on to sattellites when in the timber or in a vehicle. It also takes up to several minutes to establish your location when you first turn it on. I would consider any of the external antenna models and stay away from the internal antena models such as the Legend. I fyou lived in wide open country they may be fine.

Sorry, I have not been back to this thread. Eye Guard, I assume you are talking about the Legend and not the Legend H series. The older eTrex models did not perform well in heavy cover or some vehicles. The H series (with the improved receivers) should do much better.
