mathews dilemma
WHEN I THINK BACK TO MY FAVORITE BOW, I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THE OUTBACK. I TRADE APOX. EVERY 3 YEARS. I CURRENTLY HAVE A DRENALIN 28.5 '' DRAW. IVE FOUND THE PERFECT ARROW, BROADHEAD, ETC. IM JUST NOT HAPPY, IN MY OPINION THE BOW IS UNFORGIVING OR SHOULD I SAY VERY CRITICAL. HELL I STARTED OUT WITH A JENNINGS BLACKLIGHTNING L.O.L, BUT HEY I COULD DRIVE TACKS AT 20 YARDS. MY PEEP IN MY DRENALIN G5 META PEEP NEVER LINES UP. ONE DAY ILL TOUCH ARROWS ON TARGET NEXT DAY TOUCH ARROWS 3'' RIGHT, NEXT DAY NO GROUP. I BELIEVE ARCHERY IS 90 PERCENT COFIDENCE. AND I JUST DONT HAVE IT IN THIS RIG. IVE GOT A 28'' DXT ON ORDER TREE STAND GROUND BLIND BOW. MORE OF A WANT THANG. IM THINKIN OF TRADIN MY DRENALIN FOR AN XT. EVERYONE THAT HAS A DRENNY SAYS IVE LOST MY MIND BUT I THINK THATS THE WAY THE CARDS ARE GONNA FALL. ANY THOUGHTS OPINIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED .....

RE: mathews dilemma
I have a xt and love it. I was at the local shop and shot the new dxt and i'm thinking about getting one of them, small for a stand was the selling point for me, but yeah the xt is a great bow

RE: mathews dilemma
The best bowhunter I know shoots an Outback. He tries all the new bows every year and hasn't foundone he likes better. And he could afford a new one.
Are you limiting yourself exclusively to Mathews? There are a lot of great new bows coming out in 2008. Maybe one of them will just fit like a glove and restore confidence in your rig. |
RE: mathews dilemma
When I desided to go to a differant bow(I had a Browning)I tried 4 brands out of thos it was the
Outback that felt the best,I shot it great, then went to a switchback and I thought that was the cats meow, then came the DRENALIN..I Love it...BUT if your one to grip a bow it wont be for you.it is not as forgiving due to it being thin. That being said it only took me about 1 hour to set mine all up and hit right on the spot at 20. |
RE: mathews dilemma
I have a switchback xt and if I KNEW I couldn't get another-you would have to kill me to get mine.

RE: mathews dilemma
Ranger is on the right track. Your problems are classic grip issues. One day you hold the bow one way, your arrows group, then you make a sight adjustment and everything seems fine. The next day you hold it slightly differently, and that changes your point of impact though you still group your arrows, so you adjust the sight again. The next day, you change the grip again, the point of impact changes again, and you're so sick of this stuff that you can't group your arrows out of frustration...
You need to settle on how you are going to hold that bow. My suggestion is to keep the handle out of the web space between the thumb and index finger. Instead, the contact point should be at the meaty pad directly under the thumb, with your fingers loosely around the handle. You might try setting your fingertips lightly on the bevel of the riser to help with consistency and keep yourself from gripping the bow tightly. Good luck. |
RE: mathews dilemma
I would agree the shifting POI is probably grip related. Some bows are much more grip sensitive than others. You can continue to try the newer bows, and if you get a Mathews (or Hoyt/Bowtech), you can resell for nearly what you paid, and try again if you are not pleased. There is also nothing at all wrong with buying a used Outback, since you were so happy with that particular bow.

RE: mathews dilemma
Out of the 3 mathews bows I've sold, all 3 were sold for more USED than I paid for them NEW,and have a buddy bugging me for my current switchback xt,even tho I deliberately priced it high enough that I didn't think anybody would buy it.

RE: mathews dilemma
I'm not a Mathews shooter, but have shot them all that your referencing. I liked the XT the best. My buddy is a diehard Mathews guy and he's still shooting the XT. He said he hasn't seen enough improvement in the last 2 years to switch.

RE: mathews dilemma
I don't see any reason to fix something that ain't broke and mathews would havta come up with something fantastic to make me change-I don't wanna sell mine and am gunna tell buddy to get 1 for himself. He couldn't believe he picked mine up and(fitting and tuned perfectly),naturally it shot great for him.
