I love bowhunting, and I am looking to buy my 16 year old a new bow. I was just thinking today....a decent bow nowadays cost more than a decent shotgun or rifle. I guess the inovation and technology going into the bows add to the cost, but some of the prices are ridicoulous. I think I bought my first brand new bow for $150. Now I damn near have to take a loan out at the bank to by one. What are your thoughts?

Yeah, it's getting expensive, but it's become so commercialized that the entire industry is getting out of hand...
Take a look at the Browing Rage. Goes from 21 to 31 inches of draw, no module change, same bow....peak weight of 55 or 65 pounds. We sell them in a package deal for $379.....

check the used market... you can find some really nice 2yr old rigs for a reasonable price and they are still up to date technology, should be able to find a nice used rig for about 3-400ish fully accessorized... I'd imagine that unless he's some kind of jock that a 50lb bow is as much as he'll need, FOR NOW... diamond edge can be had for 299 new, still need to get arrows and a release, but a nice bow and reasonable price... only goes to 28" draw so if he's got a wingspan like a pteradactyl you may want to look a bit further up the food chain... but likely you're going to want to get into something that can be upgraded from there (the edge maxes out at 50lb)... if he can pull back a 50lb bow comfortably, get him a 60lb rig and have the draw weight dialed down to 50ish you've got a lot of good options available, do your homework, set your budget (plan on spending about an extra 100-150 over your budget) and have fun...

Yeah it is a shame for the average bowhunter who simply can not afford one to several new bows a year, but like already said, anything popular/in demand will push prices up. You were not clear with a price range that you were thinking was acceptable for you? Do you have one, or are you more felexible depending on what comes up?

evry year i thnk i have all i need then they bring out the new stuff and it makes you current thing look old and run down, i think they should only release a new bow every 2 years .2c
