'08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

I use to do a lot of shooting 10 years ago. Its been a long time and starting it up again. I am looking at the '08 Bear Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General, and not really sure what Hoyt or Matthews has coming up. Any recommendations for someone starting up again? I am the type of person who sticks with something until it falls apart, so thats why I was looking at the higher end bows.

RE: '08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

There's a lot of great bows on the marketplace these days; that's for sure!

I would recommend putting together a "checklist" of what you're looking for in a personal bow first...

What's important to you?

Speed? As vibration- and shock-free a shooting experience as possible?
Shootability?Stable platform? High brace height?
Maneuverability?

Great idea Greg. That will help point you in the direction not to mention help everyone here in suggesting a specific model.

I am currently shooting the Marquis and General. Each has their own particular feel but both should do more than stand up to daily use for many years to come.

I shot the new Hoyt today, can't remember the name of it, but it felt really good. Lighter than the Vectrix and faster and just as quiet.

Shoot all the Bows you can get your hands on and like Greg said make a check list. Bows are a personal choice, but for me the Bowtechs have been some of the best Bows for me that I have ever shot.:D

I went through the line of bows and bought the Bowtech Allegiance and as much as I love the Allegiance I made the mistake of shooting Matt / PA's Bowtech Guardian....that sold me on the center pivot bows. It was truly eye opening amazing. I look forward to the General as well as the Marquis. Diamond bows are top notch.

I like everyones suggestion of making a checklist and coming to a decision. I'd definately consider the Bowtech and Diamond line amoung them. Good luck on your decision.

The bow store near me is really lacking, theypretty much have to order almost every bow except theGeneral. I won't be able to get my hands on many to try out. Mainly I am concentrated on vibration and shock free. I want to be able to keep and stay on target.

So what are people liking so far?

I've said it many times: Our biggest miss as a company last year was when we took our travelling shooting booth around to all the shows, letting customers shoot any bow in the lineup last year... When people shot the Guardian for the first time, we should have had video rolling. After editing out all the expletives, it would have made the best commercial we could have run. The Guardian simply blew away expectations for how shock- and vibration-free a bow could be and still deliver very decent speeds.

Having said that, ALL reports coming in so far say that the General is even MORE shock free and vibration free than the Guardian. It's gonna be one heck of a bow, and one I'd highly suggest you take for a test run.

The shop near me is selling the General for $830.00 ouch. Doesnt that seem kinda high?

You're getting hosed brother, the most any 2008 Bowtech is supposed to be selling for is $749.00, without custom camo option of course. If I were you I would find a different Pro Shop. I just ordered a new General in Mossy Oak Brush and even with the custom camo fee and tax it only came to around $860.

I was told MSRP is $799 on the General. Are you sure he isn't pricing you an Airborne:)

RE: '08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

Yah, $830.00 was the price on the General in standard camo. That shop is within 15 miles of me. The next shop after that is over 65 miles away. I was going to go with the General when I was reading it was $750.

general327 10-20-2007 07:58 PM

RE: '08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

I know MSRP is higher than the $750, but I've checked with 3 of the dealers in my area, and they have all said that there isn't a bow in the 2008 Bowtech lineup that will be selling for more than an actual sales price of $749.00 with standard camo, General, Airbornes, Guardian, all of them. I guess it just depends on where you are and how much of a profit the individual dealer is trying to make off his customers.

You need to follow the advice of these other guys and shoot as many of the new bows as you can. The technology has changed alot since you shot last and you need to figure out what is important to you. I happen to like Diamond and bowtechs line ups as well. I am shooting a bow made by them for another company, but the technology is the same as these lines. Its a great company and a great bow. It should carry you through the next ten years, just get something that feels right to you.

I just saw the 08 line-up last night. The only thing I don't like is that the 101st and 82nd are so long. I think I might look at the General after hunting season is over. The problem I'm running into is the shop the I go to is getting ready to swap owners so they have nothing, the next closest shop is a rip off, Bass Pro is a pain in the a$$, and I shoot left handed. In all honesty, I would like too shoot all of them, Bowtech and Diamond.

It is. After having owned both I can honestly say I am in shock with the lack of shock and vibration in the general. It really does have none whatsoever. Do not take my word for it though. Go shoot one. If you aren't excited by the extremely low noise andrecoil levels I will be genuinely surprised.

I bought a bear truth bow on thursday the 18th of oct 07 on sunday 21st oct if came apart in my hands at a shoot at the bow shop i shoot 3d for we contacted bear today and they actually wanted us to send the bow back and have me wait 2 weeks for a new bow!!!!!!!!! yeah ok bear well done!!! so i said forget it im not missing the rut, i got a bowtech marquis and i have to say after all these years shooting and being involved on the bow shop scene, this is the quietest fastest 70# 29" draw bow ive ever shot or seen. So i would say to anyone check your servings on your down cable at cam and if you havnt bought a bear bow then good dont, because they dont care about us hunters or dealers at all.

Yah still not sure on what to do. If I go with the close shop and the General I am going to be over a thousand with accessories. I am leaning a bit towards the Diamond, but they would have to order it. How is it for hand shock?

RE: '08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

Just got the chance to play with a Marquis at my local pro shop, and I have to say that it is a very nice bow. First thing I noticed after picking it up is that it is significantly lighter than my General. The draw is nice and smooth with a very gentle dip into the "valley" and a solid backstop, unlike the General's abrupt drop. I'm looking at having the smooth mod replaced with the fast one, but for now the shop hasn't received any (thus I'm stuck with a draw length that is 1" too long as well). I unfortunately did not get the chance to shoot the Marquis so I can't comment on its actual performance, but if it shoots like it looks/feels, I would gladly take it to the woods with me.

Just to give you guys an update on my new marquis, its all they say it is and more. I havnt been this impressed with a new bow in some time, I buy a new bow for 3d tournaments and hunting every year. Just to let you all know we sell the bowtech diamond marquis for $650.00. If anybody is in the martinsburg wv area give us a call or visit us at J&T archery in hedgesville wv, we will be glad to help yall out :) may your arrows fly true and leave silent vapor trails.

Greg Im not arguin the Guardian is a top of the line bow or not but wanted to share this with you. I recently went into a local Bowtech dealer and asked about the Guardian and the guy running the place just shook his head and told me it would be a waste of time to shoot that bow. He let me shoot a Tribute and Allegiance and a few other brands but he didnt think much of the Guardians and bascially talked me out of it before I had a chance to try one out. He had about 8 of these bows on the rack and only 1 or 2 of any of the other Bowtech's.

Seems a bit odd you'd have that much good feedback on your truck and this shop owner seemed like it wasnt even worth shooting.

Is there a schedule your for truck so someone can go check it out if its in thier part of the country??

(It was not the gentlemen from Hedgesville who posted above)

Hey Duckbutter,

I wonder if the reason he tried to steer you away from the guardian was because it's last year's bow. I have an '06 tribute and have shot the Guardian as well.....honestly, I wasn't nearly as impressed with the Guardian as I was when I shot the Marquis this year. I absolutely loved the feel of the Marquis's grip. I can't afford to trade bows every year, but to be honest, my Tribute has done very well. When I finally do upgrade, the tribute will stay with me as a back up, no doubt.

RE: '08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

What should I do? I finally shot the Bowtech General and loved it, no Diamond Marquis around to try. I am definately leaning towards either the Bowtech General or the Diamond Marquis. The problem is the shop near me just charges to much. The Bowtech General goes for $830 (And all the posts I read they are going for $750) and they sell the Diamond Marquis for $750 (Prior to hearing that price the largest I had heard was $699 for it.) I want to get one of those bows, but then my own general principles are keeping me from paying that much at the shop. The problem is the next shop is over 50 miles away. There is a archery shop near me where the sales people great, but they do not carry the Bowtech/Diamond lines. The shop carries Hoyt and Matthews though. I feel thoseHoyt and Matthewsgot caught up on their own name andthat their quality vs price is not as nice as it use to be. Do Ifold on my principles and pay the higher price?Wait out and hope they drop the price? When I factor in the distance for a different shop and the price gas is, I think the bow would end up being more but my principles will be intact. What all do you think I should do? The General and Marquis both seem to be great bows.

RE: '08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

Well Brother, in the end only you can decide what you should do, but I know that if it were me, and the shop that is 50 miles away is selling them for the correct price, I would be on my way there right now. True with gas and all that you might end up paying the same money all told, but atleast you will know that you received a fair price, and you didn't have to go against what you believe. Why should you reward the shop near you for trying to stick it to you? Plus for $830 at an honest shop you can get a new General in a custom camo to boot.

firstly im in australia so i havn't had a chance to shoot any of the 08 bowtechs yet. i am however sold on both the centre pivot and also the cam stopper that is on the 07 allegiance and constitution and now i see that the general has both. however the shortness is kind of a problem (im currently shooting an 06-07 martin sabre at 33 1/4 in a-a and don't know if i wanna go any shorter.) does anybody know if the 08 guardian or commander have the cam stopper. plus im also deciding about the new roller guard on the general. does it present any fletching problems.
apologies for all the questions but i am scratching to upgrade my bow and want to know what im getting.

RE: '08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

I got to see the new Diamond Marquis last night at the shop. It wasn't set up to shoot yet but on the draw that bow just sits in the hand like no other bow I've handled. It pretty smooth to draw as well. I thought I was settled on a new General until I held that baby. It's nice and light too. I'll still have to shoot the bows first, but over the Hoyt Katera it's the Diamond that Hoyt I wasn't impressed with at all. Hoyts are still so darn heavy. And I like Hoyt's so don't think I'm bashing.

RE: '08 Bows Truth2, Diamond Marquis, Bowtech General

Duckbutter,

Sorry I'm so late in responding; I hadn't checked back in to this thread in quite some time...

Wow! Yeah, the guy at that shop has definitely missed the boat, to say the least!! Not only my experiences confirm it, but literally THOUSANDS of posts across the bowhunting forums confirm it; it is (was, until the release of the General) absolutely the quietest, most shock-free, and least vibration-felt-during-the-shot hunting bow out there. Archery Talk even published the most comprehensiveindependent study performed (including decibel-meter readings) last year with ALL the new bows, and the Guardian walked away with top honors.

It still might not be the bow for you after you take it for a test drive, but to not want one of your customers to shoot it not only smacks of foolishness and stupidity, its replete with irresponsibility.

What all do you think I should do? The General and Marquis both seem to be great bows.
They are...as is the new "the Rock" that I just received yesterday. Talk about an excellent shooter for $400.

What I think you should do is talk to the shop that is selling both bows at the prices you mentioned. See if they will work with you on price. Sometimes prices include free range time, a tuneup, etc.. If you forfeit those extras then the price drops. Just something to think about.

plus im also deciding about the new roller guard on the general. does it present any fletching problems.
No, it sits far enough above the arrow as to not present any problems with fletching. The only issue is might present some problems for is a kisser button. I do not shoot with one so I cannot comment personally. I will say this though...I am quite impressed with the new cable guard/string suppressor design to think that it should be offered on more of their bows for '09.

Hey guys, had to register to get in on this talk about the new Marquis. I'm in the Lehigh Valley area of NE PA, and I see there are a lot of other guys in here from the area talking $650 for the Marquis, I was wondering where you can get it for $650? I was in Weaknecht's yesterday to check it out, he told me $700 over the phone, and $680 ifI equipped it there. He said he technically "can't" sell it for less than that due to something or other with Diamond. Is he feedin me a line? Any help you guys could give me would really be appreciated.

Ive heard nothing bout a set low price if they do i wont b selling them anymore! and to update u all on the bear truth explosion and my new marquis. bear finally called me and wanted to replace the truth that blew up on me in my hands, but only after my boy will primos crew had contacted bear wanting to know what was going on. :) feels good to have people like team primos etc around, its a shame bout bears lack of customer relations :( The diamond marquis i grabbed off the rack to replace it is a very nice shooting bow but ive found the grip to be to thin and im going to have to wrap it, but i have big hands so that just might b the reason plus im set in my shooting style and a thin grip just dont work for my style of shooting. the bow is leaving vapor trails with a heavy arrow im shooting a carbon extreme terminator 6075 28" with 100 grain tip and its chronographing at 310fps consistantly now thats a very heavy arrow so im impressed its like 100 grains heavier than ibo, also bow pulls at bout 72lbs and is the quietest bow ive ever shot other than my recurve and it dont shoot any 310 fps either :) we at J&R archery commend bowtech on the excellent job with their new lineup and customer service well done guys and gals :) on the next note im not saying its the only bow line to look at or buy, lots of nice bows out there so try em out. Just dont buy a bear truth till bear archery learns how to take care of dealers and customers

No, he is not feeding you any lines. Minimum advertised price for the Marquis is $699. What the dealer sells it to you for is up to the dealer. Minimum advertised prices are set to give the dealer a fair profit margin.

I also work for a shop in the valley and we list it at $699 as well.

If a dealer sells it for less than "MAP" priceand Bowtech finds out about it they risk loosing their dealership. Bowtech requires that you not only advertise at MAP but also will not sell below MAP.

The Truth 2'swon't be shipping until the middle of November. According to Escalade sports as of yesterday.
