Lone Wolf Hang Ons vs. Climbers
 

Ok, this is kind of a book, but please bear with me.I want a Lone wolf pretty bad. I've read some reviews but I can't decide if I should get a climber or hang on. A simple solution would be to have both, but as a poor college student that's not an option.I have used some climbers before but didn't like them because of the noise and bulk. I have always had a thing for hang ons because I could put them in a lot of different trees. I use pegs and can get high enough with only six. I like how solid hang ons feel opposed to the climbersI've used in the past as well. The main thing that worries me about a climbers is looking like a big blob on a skinny tree.Iwill be hunting public ground for the first time this year and don't have a lotof time to spend scouting because of school.So I will be hunting with a "grab and go" style. I thought if I got the alpha assault hang on I could pack it around and hoist it up a tree with ease. I guess my questions are: does anyone have an assault hang on? And do they really weigh 8.5 lbs? Would I be better off with the climber?

I have sold a few of the elite hang on stands and everyone that bought them was more than pleased, they are quiet, light and have a huge platform. I sold one of the alpha sit and climb stands and the guy that bought it two weeks ago wants to get rid of it already, he didn't say why he just grumbled how he should have bought the hang on....hope this helps...

yeah, i have the hang on with several straps...works great...i leave straps everywhere...some for a year.
i go back and it is still there:) love it

I have a Lone Wolf Alpha hang on and its great. You can sit in a tree comfortably all day if need be.

I have a an Alpha hand climber and it is great. Light weight and very quite. I have gone into unknown territory last year and harvested a deer twice using it. Highly recommend the climber.

I have a Sit and Climb and love it, I have used climbers for many years, going back to the old Baker style. It is not the most comfortable to sit all day in, but I stand about 50% of the time and it works great for me.

If I had to pick I'd take a climber. My area has lots of nice trees to climb. That said I still hunt primarily out of hang-ons. It's just easier to not lug the climber around all the time.

I have the sit and climb and I have the assault with 4 sticks. I love them both. The climber is definitly the more comfortable of the two, however you are limited as to what trees you can set up in. It depends on the areas you plan on hunting. Don't worry about stability with the climber either, it is rock solid once you sinch the seat to the platform.

I would probably pick the assault and some sticks if I were you though. With the hang on you don't have to worry about finding a climbable tree when you find the spot you want to sit. JMO.

Also, the assault is very light and easy to set up, but once you strap 4 sticks on there it weighs about the same as the sit and climb when on your back.

i got the alpha with sticks. that weighs about as much as a climber but you can set up in any tree you want. My set up works great for me. You wouldnt be disappointed

I hunt a couple of the State Fish and Wildlife Areas around here and they have a rule that says nothing can be used that pierces the bark (screw in steps). You also can't leave a stand overnight so weight can be a factor if you've got a long walk. I bought the assault and 4 of the sticks, they all fit nicely together and weigh just 18 1/2 lbs. I can be up the tree and hunting in less than 10 minutes, and the stand can also be put on a fairly crooked tree with a bunch of limbs. I'm 5'10" and about 260, and have plenty of room. The seat isn't the most comfortable thing, my butt gets a little sore after a few hours, but it's well worth it!!
