Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Would you guys pick. It is between the...
[ul][*]Crimson Talon 100gr[*]Muzzy 100gr[*]G5 Striker 100gr[/ul] I'm looking for sharpness, cutting diameter, and flight. Thanks yall:) |
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Ya cant beat the muzzy out of those three!! I used them for many years(actually90grn 4blade) but still a great head!
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Muzzy is ok, other than the new mx series I was never impressed. I had blades bend and furrells bend just from a little shoulder blade sometimes even just rib shots did it. The strikers are my choice, crazy sharp and all steel so you know they are tough. My friend shot them last year and killed several deer with the same head and same blades after touching them up with G5's carbide sharpener.

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I favor muzzys and have never had any trouble with durablity or flight
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Anybody that say that a rib bent there muzzy... IMHO is a none hunting mofo:D I've dug these things out of beech trees, oak, and telephone poles, I've had them pass threw quite a few deer and still be perfectly stright... I had then pass threw a target and hit a concrete curb stop and still be stright... They are IMHO the toughest broadhead on the market... They were made to take game in africa... They are the only broadhead I use!!! [/align] |
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I like the muzzy 100 gr. 3 blade, but do not prefer the new mx series.
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I guess Im a non hunting mofo then, cause Ive had some mangled muzzy's on straight up rib shots. Mostly it happened on shoulder blade but still thats pretty poor durability if you ask me. Besides, if that broadhead hit ribs or shoulder bladethen it was most likely a pretty good shot for a non hunting mofo like myself.

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
muzzy's always planed left on me !! strikers fly true with field points give them a try!!
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Muzzy's out of those listed. Used 90 Gr. 4-blade Muzzy's since I began bowhunting in 1996 and have never had a problem with them. Great entry, exit, and penetraition on all of my shots. I'm going to the 100 Gr. 3-blade, this year, but wouldn't shoot any other head.:D
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I have heard a number of experienced bowhunters refer to the Muzzy as the "Remington 870 of broadheads".
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Muzzys fo' life ;)
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I don't think you can go wrong with either the Muzzy or the G5. I used the 100 gr.Talons last year, and did not care for them at all. (imo) their marketing department isFAR superior to their broadhead.
Muzzy has been the benchmark for yearsand they continue to sell so they must be good, and I have a friend who hunted the G5 last year and swears by them. My personalexperience says stay away from the Talons, but I'm sure they have their following as well; I'm just not sure why:eek: I prefer Slick Trick. |
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Just because folks have been using them for years does not mean they are the best broadhead. They are a good head but in the last several years there have been a whole bunch of heads that are definetly better.
The G5 striker is by far a better head than Muzzy or tallons. They tend to fly truer from most peoples bows that try them, are made of 100% steel so they are much muchstronger than a broadhead made of aluminum, The tip is designed to cut on contact, and the blades Lutz German blades and are absolutely, no doubt sharper than Muzzy or tallons. Of course if you want the best fixed blade head get Slick Tricks. |
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
i got a test striker coming but used muzzy for fox ;asst year and worked great.
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
The Striker is just an imitation of the Wac'em Exit. You might want to check them out too.
They fly great and are extremely tough and sharp. |
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Hey passthru, like Longbeard says, why use anything but a Muzzy, you can shoot curbs, probably penetrate steel I beams with the things, and still they are undamaged. I think anyone thatshoots any other brand must just be an idiot. Don't know why every other broadhead company doesn't just close up shop and go home right now. Personally I like the Wac'ems, but occassionally they do need sharpening/straightening and have absolutely no Kryptonite in them, so unlike the muzzy's, can't stop superman in his tracks. :)

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I bought some muzzys last year and they were all over the target. I just could not get them to group together. So i went and bought some G5 montecs and they were right on the money. I heard the strikers fly just as good. The only issues i have ever heard with g5 broadheads were the sharpness on the montecs. Mine were not very sharp out of the package but hit them on a stone and they are good to go. The strikers are suppose to be razor sharp right out of the box. So if it was me i would get the strikers because of sharpness, flight characterisics, and in my opinion cut on contact broadheads have better penetration. I don't really have any experience with the talons

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I shot the muzzy 3 blade 100gr.there a good broadhead but there not sharp out of the pack you have to touch em up a bit,and I did notice they shot a little to the right of my field points,I went to a magnus stinger buzzcut last year and there razor sharp cut on contact and they fly exactly like my field points and there gauranteed for life,I have never shot the other two,but your bang for the dollar would be the muzzy a six pack of em are under $30.00 and I know a few people shooting them and I have never heard nothing bad

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I'm new to this but I'm using 100 gr Grim Reapers http://grimreaperbroadheads.com/mainpage.html My dealer recommends them because he uses them.
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I've shot all three and last year switched to the striker. Flies straight, sharp and leaves a great blood trail. Between the three, it's my recommendation. JMO, best of luck.

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I would go with the muzzy's.

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I shot muzzy 100s for years and went thru them like crazy. Always had problems with them planing and being all over the place. Reasons being either bent blades(on practice heads) or bent ferrules(on heads that were used for practice after being used on deer), or a combo of both. Drove me nuts. When shooting these heads you need to make sure everything is perfectly straight and there is no wobble whatsoever, otherwise they'll be all over the place. I shot the strykers last year and loved them, very tough, and plenty sharp. Shot the three blade rage year before last and had nothing but problems. The blades interfere with one another on a pretty consistent basis. Thinking of trying the slicktricks this year, $22 is pretty good for a set of broadheads.

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
i like the muzzy 3 blade 100 gr i have shot clean through a deers spine with them and be for
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
Ive used muzzy for years , they are a great head , the new g5 strikers are my first choice now . they are sharper , and well built .
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
i think muzzy heads have gotten alot less durable over the years. i still like seeing this one my dad has in his box from years ago that he shot through a deer and hit a rock and all it did was bend one blade and squish the tip alittle used to be crazzy tough heads but i also think it was a really heavy head. ive seen alot of people pointing to the ferlues bending anymore and the blades are not bad but def not as tought as something resharponable but thats the trade off of being able to replace to blades i guess.
|
RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
The Muzzy has no doubt earned a respected reputation but I would choose the Slick Tricks over them everytime. Outstanding fixed blades!

RE: Broad-Heads...which of these 3
I was talking to one of the local Guru's of bowhunting last night. He did some extensive long range accuracy testing this summer in preparation for antelope hunting. In both of his bows, the 75 Muzzy was the winner at the 80 yard line. Wound up shooting a "Poper" on Monday night. Not a real comprehensive test, but consistent with my experience. The G5 Montec flys almost as well out of my bow and offers a little bigger cut, so I'm not sending these out with the trash. But that little Muzzy sure flys well.
BTW, this guy doesn't like expandables. |
