Residue on Arrows???
 

After I fletched my first batch of arrows. I noticed that there is a white residue that is showing up on the glue. It showed up about 24 hours after I had fetched them. I tried to get it off with Isopropyl but it came back. I am using Tim's Goat Tuff for glue and AAE Arrow Shaft Cleaner. Heres some pics:




Has anyone experienced anything similiar or does anyone know why this happened? I refletched another arrow for my dad using only the Goat Tuff Glue and the same thing happened. I am clueless hear becuase no one else has had this happen with their Goat Tuff Glue as far asI have read. It is really strong but I don't like that residue it leaves.

It's nothing to worry about.What we figure at the archery shop,its just the vapors of the glue collecting and drying on the freshly cleaned carbon. It should remove with a small amount or acetone on a rag, use your finger tip or a q-tip,just don't soak it or you'll cause damage to the glue holding the vanes on.

Also, for a scientific answer to your question, that i just found on an adhesives website:

''The white residue is cured volatized cyanoacrylate that settles back down on the part. This is especially true when using standard Ethyl cyanoacrylates.''

Goat tuff is a cyanoacrylate glue.

Ok, but why doesn't this happen to everybody then? I mean I'm sureI would have read about it out of all the reviews floating around about Tim's Goat Tuff.

It does happen to everybody to one degree or another.

The best answer I can give you is "More glue = more residue"

I normally meter the glue on the bottom of the vane by putting a bead down the base then dabbing it on a paper towel before setting it on the arrow shaft. This spreads the glue out as well as removes any extra. It also minimizes the quantity of residue afterwards.

Yep, that's just a "super glue" traight. Nothing to worry about at all. If you want to wipe it off, you can, but just normal use will take it off as well. It has no ill effect on your arrows what so ever.
