Peepless and single pin sight technology
I received a catalog today (you gotta love marketing!) and was very intrigued by a sight on the cover of the catalog. I really liked the way the sight drew the eye to the center of the sight picture and the pin. When I started looking at the specifics of the sight it turns out that it a "peepless" sight. Of course I know nothing about them. Additionally, it is a single pin sight, and I know nothing about them either. As usual, I have questions abounding. What is the deal (for lack of anything more intelligent to call it) with "peepless' sights? Also, single pin sights? When the elevation is changed is there a positive click or ratcheting? The sight I reference is a VitalGear sight called the Hollowpino andthe sight picture looks like this:

RE: Peepless and single pin sight technology
I have Vitals 3 pin sight. Usualy for a sight to be peepless, it means it has a front and a rear sight. Like rifle sight on a gun. As far as single pin sights go there are movable ones that you can set marks for different yardages, and stationary ones that you just sight in for say 30 yards and hold over or under accordingly.

RE: Peepless and single pin sight technology
I have a VitalGear sight on my bow, the StarTrack. It's a single pin mover too, just not peepless.....Here's the scoop....
Single pins, like any others, have their advantages and disadvantages. I like a single pin because I don't get confused. Pin gaps are so small anymore multiple pins look like a blur to me, I can't focus on just one pin, and if I do, it's always the WRONG one...[:@] For me, 1 pin is just much simpler. The Hollowpino and mine pivot. You loosen a thumbtab and pivot the sight up or down to a premarked range....My StarTrack, and the Hollowpino if I'm not mistaken, have fibre optic yardage markers....You set those where you want them, and move accordingly. For hunting, I leave mine set at 25 yards. I shoot an inch high at 20 yards and an inch low at 30. Simple enough. The peepless system I haven't messed with, but the theory goes as follows. To have the pin centered in the red diamond, you MUST anchor the same each and every time. If you don't, the pin won't line up and you'll miss...Much the same as a peep sight. Peep sights weigh your string down ever so slightly, and for me they make it difficult to focus downrange because your pupil must dialate to let in more light.....So that's the theory.... |
RE: Peepless and single pin sight technology
Pin gaps are getting smaller these days. I hear that! That is one of the things I have struggled with the past few months. I don't see as well as I used to and the whole sight picture tends to blur, especially with many, closely spaced pins. So I'm liking the idea of a single pin to focus on. The movable part is worrisome.... I would like to have a better understanding of the fibrer optic yardage markers you mentioned. I have never even seen a peepless system. My crystal ball is getting clearer - I see another trip to the bow shop in my future!!
Thanks for the info.! |
RE: Peepless and single pin sight technology
So the front and rear part of the sight are mounted on the sight itsself?
Hooraah! |
RE: Peepless and single pin sight technology
I tried the hindsight and returned it because it was a pain in the but to get it to sight in.
