Custom Shooting Systems adds familiar icon to its staff
Ed McPherson named vice president

By Jeff G. Phillips
ESPN Outdoors Associate Editor

SALT ROCK, W.V., Oct. 18, 2002 - President/CEO of Custom Shooting Systems (CSS), Chuck Nease, today officially announced Ed McPherson as vice president as part of the company's newly established, five-year growth plan. In addition to McPherson's marketing and sales duties, he will also play a key part in new bow design and will oversee new business on an international scale.

CSS, established in 1995 by Chuck Nease, is a bow manufacturer primarily known for competition-grade, custom-built bows with needle-threading accuracy, and a good combination of speed and easy-of-shooting. Bows are hand built, literary, one at a time by Nease himself or by other former I.B.O./A.S.A. champions.

Recognizing product popularity on the tournament trail, Nease decided that it was time to make a solid move toward growth and tap other markets. Nease revealed his plan was to get a rough, five-year growth plan together with a well-known entity within the archery industry. This is where McPherson came into the picture.

I am extremely happy to have such an elite archery icon like Ed (McPherson) aboard our team," said former I.B.O. champion and Triple Crown winner Chuck Nease. "The dynamic expertise that Ed brings to the table is just what we need to make CSS seen as a major player.

"CSS is already well know among competitive shooters, we just need some help getting the word out about our premium product to hunters here in the U.S. and archers in other countries. And, I think Ed is just the help that we need."

McPherson, 35, Knoxville, Tenn., is no rookie in the archery world. His impressive resume notes previous ties with Mathews, Inc., and High Country as their former pres.. Not only has McPherson contributed to the success of some high-profile companies, he is also an accomplished tournament archer with several victories under his belt.

"Archery is my life and this is the most excited I have been about the sport in several years," McPherson said. "Chuck gave me a bow to shoot for a few weeks and then he showed me his plan. I knew then there was a good possibility this could all work out for everyone, including the sport of archery itself.

"We had meetings for several months to polish the five-year plan and to finalize my ties with the company (CSS). We look forward to adding key people and employees as the company grows and reaches it’s full potential. With great people, great product and a solid business plan the future looks promising for CSS and their dealer network.

"The result is the makings of a bow company with a top-notch product and secured financial support. We have the opportunity to grow exponentially for the next several years, reaching markets where CSS has never been heard of - I'm anxious to get started," McPherson added.
