Where to start
Guys,
I am completelynew to bow hunting or bows period. I do not know anyone who has a bow, know how to use it or help me to buy one.I feel, I have to buyone and practice over thespring and summer if I want to use it in fall. I do need an advise on what to buy and what to look for in a bow.Iam thinking about a used one on eBay or something, looking for already preset pkg. under $200.00-250.00 Is it reasonable? What would I need on the bow (accessories), how important 50lb, 60lb or 70lb? 60%, 70%,85% ...Any other tips would be appreciated. Thank you |
RE: Where to start
I've got two words for you: Pro Shop.
In your situation I would HIGHLY recommend against buying a used bow, especially on E-Bay! You need a qualified pro to set you up so that the bow you get fits you properly. Go to a proshop and get measured for draw length and a comfortable draw weight that you aren't straining to shoot. Shoot as many bows as you can get your hands on to find out what you like and dislike, then make an educated decision on what you want. The shop may have something used in your price range but don't buy something just because you got a "good deal", buy it becasue it fits your needs, and since you don't know what those needs are yet, get some help. If you've got a club or even better a 3D shoot in your area go and ask questions. You're going to meet a lot of great people that are more than willing to point you in the right direction. Find the top shooters and listen to what they've got to say. |

RE: Where to start
I agree you need to go to a pro shop. Try and find someone that has some knowledge about archery to go with you if you can. Or at the very least try and find a good pro shop where the staff is knowledgable, there are some that are not that much dif. than buying from ebay in my opinion. Where are you from?

RE: Where to start
KODIAK has got you covered. We could give you all the advice in the world but you need someone there to help and make sure of correct draw length, weight, proper arrows, ext.

RE: Where to start
If you buy a bow without information on draw lenght (a VERY critical detail), regardless of where you but it you are asking for trouble. If you want to have any hope of success, and any fun (as opposed to frustration), for the love of little children - HITTHE PRO SHOP!!!
