Default Peep with Larger hole? Family conflict

Sorry I don't post much but I really need help. I had a shot at a doe on Sunday night at ten yards and missed!!! I found out my reason why and that was because my peep sight has a very tiny hole. I then knew right then and there that that was my problem, and decided from there that I would go purchase a new peep with a larger hole. I want to be able to see the deer and look for my spot while still looking in my peep. Well, ne wayz I told my dad this and he started going off about how bad my shooting form is and if thats not it than its something with the bow. I told him I already know what the problem is and its my peep sight. I have an XL peep sight from game tracker and was gonna go down to Ashland, Fin, Feather, and Fur and have em change it. But I know that my dad would get really mad. By the way I'm 16 so getting down there is not a problem. But I don't want to start anything w/ my dad because you guyz would never hear from me again (u don't really hear from me a lot ne wayz)but I'm not gonna sit there the rest of the season having to stop hunting an hour early because my peep sight won't allow me to hunt. Please help!!

A lerger peep might help in low light conditions (IF you only open your peep eye) but will make things more fuzzy (can't focus on both the pin and target with a large peep, or no peep)
Try shooting with both eyes open. You non-peep (left?) eye can see the target, the right eye the pins...your brain will put it all together, just focus on the target (small peep will keep pin in focus as well). Also, use a bright pin, or a pin light...that will help too.
For now, (or maybe the next 2 years :-) ) just try opening BOTH eyes. You will see fine, and Dad will be happy too. Also, it's easier to focus with both eyes open...you may see an increase in accuracy

There's good and bad about using a smaller peep. They are usually more accurate but when the light fades you are screwed. I've been doing this archery thing for 30+ years and you can believe me when I say that a bigger peep is the way to go for hunting. You might suffer a bit with accuracy but pinpoint accuracy is not really a necessity for hunting. It's not nearly as important as being able to see and having confidence in being able to do so. I almost always use a 1/16" True-peep for 3D during the summer when I have the time to think and do everything right. When hunting time comes it's time to change it out and gowith 3/16" just to be able to see through it when it's darker. Your eye will most times naturally center in the larger peep, or close enough. There's is not much that can frustrate you more than drawing the bow, anchoring, and not be able to see the animal or your pin due to too small a peep. I'm on your side.

Hoytusa,
If you happen to use a round aperture sight try using a larger peep that, when you look through it, is the same size as your sight aperture. This may also involve moving your sight in or out a bit (if possible), or using different size drill bits to enlarge hole. Using this method of centering your sight in your peep will pretty much eliminate any right or left problems you may have plus it makes it a lot easier to see in low light situations.

Larger peep usally is what most use for hunting. I perfer smaller with scope in 3d competion. I always use larger for hunting. I have seen many a good 3d shooter use larger peep holes.

I shoot a micro hole indoors with scope but for hunting with the same bow i use a HUNTER or Xtra Large size hol ein my peep for hunting and you do loose a lil accuracy but trust me you can still rub those arrows together wihtout a problem
big is the way to go for hunting

Your dad may in fact have a point though your form does have to be good and solid to be consistant in the field.
Im not sayin eithr is why you missed cuz we all miss now and again
but the bigger hole can't hurt

12 deer shot and 12 recovered
all credit to pse and nap for spitfire broadheads

Some very good points made here. I went to a large peep this year for low light shooting. It took me a while to overcome long distance accuracy problems, but after a lot of practice my anchor point and form came together and its no longer an issue. Stealthforce made a great point...Open both eyes, it not only helps with light but aslo depth perception.

Thanks for the help guyz, well I went ahead and had it changed! I still have yet to shoot though because I tagged out on the opener of shotgun. But I will be shooting soon to get ready for next season. I really appreciate the input. My biggest concern for a bigger peep is that so I can still see the deer and make my adjustments necessary while still looking in the peep. Not looking at the deer and adjust accordingly. Don't like that!! Well ne wayz, if the bigger peep doesn't work I'm prolly gonna go see someone about my form or just get a no peep. Thanks a bunch guys!!

Again, the idea is to keep BOTH eyes open the WHOLE time...not looking back and forth. Let each eye see what it needs to (Right eye/pins Left eye/target) and your brain will put them together.
Great way to make a few bucks when you find someone who DOESN'T believe this....bet them $1 a point on a target face. You agree to shoot with a piece of duct tape over your pin guard so you can't see the target...only the pins! and spot them $2 a bull's eye gets you $3 per arrow....they learn quick though, and admit they were wrong after a couple of arrows

Stealth_Force , it's not always a matter of "believing" your "both eyes open" shooting ability. Some people physically cant shoot with both eyes open. I'm one of them. I've discussed this with my eye doc and he says I have a stygmatism(sp?) problem which prevents me from focusing on one thing with my right while focusing on something else with my left. He says it's quite common. Just thought I'd mention this in case someone decides to try it and cant figure out why they cant hit the target and why sometimes they see double.

For hunting I love the Fletcher tru peep 3/16"!
