american made treestands
i am looking for a good american made treestand. i always bought api treestands now they are made in china. i will never buy another api again. any info would be greatly appreciated..

Summit all the way...
Most others on the market are made in China... like Ameristep.. With the exception of a very small few.. like Summit, Lone Wolf, ??? API got sued due to a treestand injury... and went out of business.. Bass Pro Shops bought the name.. and now has the stands made in China... Ever wonder why BPS is the only place you can get API??? Summit! No questions asked... They are by far the best, IMHO... Made right in Decatur Alabama, and are very very well made. The lightest, most rugged, most quiet, and even the most comfortable treestand around! [8D] Comfortable isn't kidding... you will find yourself nodding off to sleep in a Summit treestand!

How much of it has to be made here? Some are assembled here, but the parts are not. I'd be willing to bet there is not one that is american made, even if you made it yourself. Unless you also produce the parts.There are many americans who feed their families though from the distribution of any stand sold here. Does that count? Mine isfrom Michigan. North Star.

Just call them and ask if they are 100% manufactured in the states.
I already knew they have some parts manufactured overseasbut called them to make 100% sure before I posted. They confirmed that they do, in fact, manufacture parts of their stands overseasas well as things like their bucksteps. Notice on the FAQ's page they never say that they are made or manufactured 100% in the states. Instead they use words like produce, built, and building. Anything can be produced or built from parts made anywhere in the world. IE... I can build a house from wood purchased in SouthAmerica. |

I just bought Family Tradition Treestands a year ago and brought it to Michigan from Florida. We've traditionally been really popular in the southeast and we're working on establishing them here in the Midwest now. The company was bought in 2003 and stopped making stands until I bought it recently.
It's a 13 year old company and, yes, ours are 100% made in the USA. We're building them here in Charlotte, Michigan. We're known for both rigidity and the comfort of our hand webbed seats. Sorry to burst your bubble about Summit stands, but attached is the response I reveived when the question was asked of Summit:
The short answer is yes and no. It varies from stand to stand. Most of our aluminum climbers have at least some parts produced in China. Final assembly, some welding, powder coating and boxing are still here in Decatur. The steel in the steel stands is mostly sourced from China with final assembly again occurring here. Most of our standard harnesses are made in either China or Taiwan also. As of right now, the Swiftree is the only product 100% built and boxed in China. Unfortunately for us, we have to compete with many manufacturers that have 100 percent of product made in China. We are not willing to close down our manufacturing operations to take that same path. We decided to take a hybrid approach and import assemblies that have further manufacturing processes required so that we would be able to inspect the quality of the products coming in and keep a high quality level while still allowing us to be competitive in this market. do you guys like the cables or strap style better? I know I guy that slipped down a wet tree with a cable while my buddy had no problem with his strap style?

Yes I found out not long ago that the reason the accessories have gotten cheap on Summit stands is due to china manufacturing them now. I was in love with my viper but am now in search of an American made stand.

The summit is by far more comfortable but lone wolf quieter and quicker to set up. Quick couple hour hunts I'm always grabbing my lone wolf,. Long sits my summits

I love my Lone Wolf stands especially the climber. May cost a little more than others but worth every penny. Yes the hang on is not that comfy but a breeze to to set up. Their climbing sticks are nice too.
I don't think you will find a better setup. |

I'm beginning to wonder
how some hunters are going to even use treestands.
I'm holding onto my American treestand, twenty years old, that still fits. Getting to the point all treestands are getting too big to carry into and out of the woods. Or much too small to sit on comfortably. |
American made tree stand
Probably impossible to find or nearly find. If you haven't done any cost accounting, it might be hard to understand. And we know how experienced most Americans are with cost accounting.
Sellers use cost accounting to anticipate the cost of a product. And a further need for a product, the production total needed, affects the cost. It's easy for me to say. I''m a former cost accountant in an ammunition plant. Saved me a lot of time worrying about the impossible or things I won't find. |
I have a millinium tripod that is very comfortable. Always looking for a better hang on stand though that won't break the bank or back. I hunt public so a cheap stand is a must but it needs to light enough that I can carry it and the climbing sticks together since it is not legal to use the screw in steps on public land here. I also walk quite a ways back in so the fewer trips I make getting it all set up the better!
