broadhead for light lb bow
 

I have asked another forum their opinion, but I love getting fed back from mutliple groups before deciding.

I shoot a 40# bow with a 28" drawlength. I use a carbon arrow. Can you all give me suggestions on what broadhead you think will work the best with this set up? My pro shop told me to shoot 85 grains, but I'm new to this and my husband is of no help since he shoots 65#.

id shot 100-125gr heads becuase you shoot carbons so your finished arrow weight is probably pretty low...though with a 28 inch draw id say you cant be TOO light or short on arrow legnth.. i would also shoot a cut on contact style head...such as a Magnus Stinger or many of the other cut on contacts out there..they will aid in getting the best penetration.

Stay witha broadhead that has a cutting diameter under 1 1/4 inches. 7/8 to 1 inch would work great. 2 or 3 blade, cut-on-contact. Try to shoot a heavy arrow/broadhead combo to maximize the Kinetic Energy of your set-up.

Don't like the idea of a 125 gr. head in this case....it's just too heavy. Don't like the 85 either, though.....Personally, I would go middle of the road. 100 gr. will give good KE and good speed. The best of both worlds, if you will.

Definetly a cut on contact, no question of that. Magnus Stinger would be my first choice, followed by a Montec G5, Wac'em, and Slick Trick.

Outlander siad it best. Keep it narrow---and sharp. Possibly a two balde although three blades will probably work OK. Weight really isn't an issue as far as I'm concerned. You shoot and arrow spined correctly and get good flight. That puts all the momentum behind the head and improves penetration.

Kinetic energy is just a number. Jeesh, what did we do before mathematics and computer programs? Guess we just went and shot our bows and killed animals.
