Need quick recommendation....

Going turkey hunting with bow for first time.....any quick recommendations on broadheads? Fixed or expandable? Thanks!

I would use expandable. That broadhead will probably fly right through that turkey a whole lot easier than a deer.

NAP gobble stopper. It is an expandable with a blunt tip made for turkeys. They work great, knocks the snot out of em.

Why not just use the slick tricks that you have been using?

Thanks for the replies and advice! I went to local Wally World yesterday and they didn't have much....nothing I could find that looked right for turkeys. Don't have time to make the trip to the archery shop....

Good advice and my plan as of now. Slick Tricks have been very good to me so far.....

Saw the "Adder" in Cabela's catalog....anyone use this? Ray

I've used both mechanical and fixed on many turkey. Overall, I think I prefer mechanicals; however I prefer a specific one. Last Friday I shot two turkeys with two different heads within 1 minute of each other. The first I shot with a Simmons RazorShark fixed blade. It went 10 yards, lay down and died in about two minutes. The damage was incredible. The second I shot with a Innerloc EXP expandable, which I've been using for the last year and a half exclusively for turkey, and is subsequently my favorite turkey head. It went 5 yards and died almost immediately. The damage was very respectable as well. However, these distances and times, of course, are subject to shot placement.

The EXP's can be set to a 1 and 1/8 inch cut, or a 1 and 7/16ths inch cut; I had it set on the latter. The reason I am fond of, and suggest them for turkey to as many people that will listen, is that the EXP doesn't use o-rings or bands to hold the blades together. Instead it uses a cam action with clips. This cam action is why I prefer it for turkey. It opens very quickly, but seems to allow the energy of the arrow to be transferred to the bird very well; aiding in putting it down. Take a look at them on their site (www.innerloc.com) and try them out. I think you'd like them; plus they blades are way easier to change than the Spitfires and similar heads. ;)

I also prefer a mech. head on turkeys, I like to get all the cut I can, and penetration is not an issue on turkeys!

Definitely a very large expandable. And it may even be advisable to turn the weight down on the bow. One of the things you should not be wanting is a complete pass through. Preferrably you want the arrow to stay in the bird inhibiting the use of it's wings.

wally world carries the nap spitfires and they work rather well on deer and turkeys
