RE: Pass the salt... MAJOR kudos to the Muzzy Zero Effect rest!
im thinkin about gettin one but which kind and how much do they cost...do they work well with lower pound bows also or no.....
i am currently using a wb rite now and for me i think it just makes too much noise and is a good slow down for my arrows and i need every fps i can get since i am only shooting 50 lbs.....what are the advantages of the muzzy compared to the wb? |
RE: Pass the salt... MAJOR kudos to the Muzzy Zero Effect rest!
kidd, the original Zero Effect fits any standard bow with an upper cable guard. Parallel-limb style bows (such as those produced by Bowtech) will require using the 600-PC, while the roller guard on the newer Mathews bows requires a 600-MATHEWS.The 600-HOYT is designed specifically for the TEC risers on most Hoyt and Reflex bows. I'm not sure what list prices are on each model; you could check with an archery supplier with an internet presence such as lancaster archery(www.lancasterarchery.com)or bowhunter's superstore (www.bowhunterssuperstore.com).
They will work just as well on a lower-poundage bow, as the rest itself -- as I alluded to in my initial post -- is bow driven, meaning the action of the cable slide moving forward as the bow is shot is what drives the arm of the rest down and out of the way. As far as advantages.... Well, that's going to be up to you to decide. There's tons of loyal users of the whisker biscuit, and for good reason; it's a great hunting rest in its own right. I personally find the concept of absolutely nothing touching or being able to effect the arrow as it passes through more appealing than the concept of the whisker biscuit -- but, again, that's just me. You mention excessive noise as an issue for you; I can tell you that independent testing has time and again rated the MZE as the quietest fallaway on the market, and I think it would stack up agains the best fixed rests as well; there's just no noise with this rest at all. |
RE: Pass the salt... MAJOR kudos to the Muzzy Zero Effect rest!
Greg, now I know why you are such a great writer...I saw your resume ;)
I just want to add a few nickels to the thread as I usually always add my kudos to the MZE. I have been using them ever since Len Marsh turned me on to it many years ago. Guys it is a bomb proof hunting rest, ok it is ugly.[:-] I have had them on all my Bowtechs and on my 2 Allys now. The issue of the cables rubbing is mute...it will not hurt them. Keep your strings waxed as we should anyhow and you're good to go. I trim the hook down for easier arrow loading. Greg job Greg on the review, you do a great job on all of them and your pics are outstanding! ![]() |

Thanks, Jerry... that means a lot coming from you! Your 2007 Ally looks much like mine, except I just sold my HHA sight a couple days ago and I've got a Stealth stab on it now.

Greg/MO,
Just saw this for the first time as it got dredged back up. I've been looking at rests for my 07 Tribute. Thanks for the review. |
RE: Pass the salt... MAJOR kudos to the Muzzy Zero Effect rest!
Greg, As you know I've followed this post for a while now. I've ordered my Zero effect through my Pro Shop, it will be in tomorrow and I'll probably go down this weekend for pick-up and installation. Any last minute tips or things you've discovered now that you've had it a while?
Your great and thorough review sold me on this particular rest when I was overwhelmed by "which rest" decisions. Thanks alot. I will post a follow-up as I get tuned in! |
RE: Pass the salt... MAJOR kudos to the Muzzy Zero Effect rest!

RE: Pass the salt... MAJOR kudos to the Muzzy Zero Effect rest!
Mitch, just returned your PM.
Gr8... Nothing new to add, other than this rest remains as high on my list as it did when I initially set it up and wrote the review! It really is as simple and foolproof as I made it sound here, and I continue to be impressed with it. I put another one on my '07 Allegiance. |
RE: Pass the salt... MAJOR kudos to the Muzzy Zero Effect rest!
