aluminum vs. carbon arrows
 

hi, i know this has probably been asked many times but is there any and what is the shooting difference between carbon and aluminum arrows?

OK......we could be here all night, but GENERALLY speaking, carbons are faster because of their lighter weight and smaller diameter. They are quite durable and can withstand fairly substantial abuse. Don't buy into the "It's either broke or good" theory, though. That just ain't true. Carbons have been faulted for their lack of consistencey, but in the last year or two the carbon arrow business has come on strong making arrows every bit as tight as aluminum.

Again, GENERALLY speaking, aluminums are heavier delivering more downrange KE and momentum. Aluminum has been the leader in tolerances, but again, in the last couple years high end carbon run neck and neck. Aluminums are generally less expensive than their carbon counterparts of equal tolerances, but not always. You bang aluminums together, they dent and bend, but can sometimes be straightened.

Again, these are generalizations. You gotta decide what's best for you.

I'll take mine with butter and perhaps parmesan cheese...mobowhuntr pretty much nailed it...carbon/aluminum comes down to what you want out of an arrow. I've shot both through the years and have no problem with either. I've won 3D tournaments with both, I've taken animals with both...I tend to lean towards carbon based arrows today because of stiffness and penetration not to mention when I group my arrows I tend to crease my aluminums...that's the curse of tight groups with aluminums...

Today I shoot the best of both worlds in what I feel is the one of the best arrows available and they are the Easton ACC's...they are not one of the best because I shoot them, I shoot them because they are one of the best.

Both of these guys have pretty well said it all. I shot aluminums for years and have shot carbons now for 3 years and no way could you get me to go back to having to deal with bent arrows. Carbon arrows get my vote hands down. HCH

Yup.... Same here...

withsome butter and just a touch of seasoned salt.

I used to shoot XX75's in 2315 with a 125gr tip (flying tire irons). Now that I got my new bow, I moved up to carbons and can't understand why I didn't do it sooner.

CARBON RULES!!!! :D They are either straight and shootable or they're broken.

Also, carbon technology has come a long way these past few years and they are very very rugged and reliable. Once you go "black" you never go back.... ;)

I shot one of those RedHead Carbon Furies into a curb from about 15 feet away. Nothing. Took a good chunk out of the curb though. And that's at 70lbs draw!

what really hasn't been said here too is that it is much easier to find the right carbon arrow for any particular bow... the spine on carbon arrows can tolerate a much greater range than the aluminum arrows...

That's why there are an almost infinite number of spine ratings for aluminums. 1716 all the way up to....oh heck, I don't know.....2614 I think. It's not very tough to find the properly spined arrow in aluminum either.

I've shot the ACCs since the mid-90s and love them. The best of both worlds and very tough to bend/break/etc. I still have a few (7) that I'm still shooting from the original batch of 12 bought sometime in 94 or 95. The missing 5 were lost while hunting or practicing.

I shoot gold tip expedition 3555 they are to a plus or - 2 gr and have a straightness of plus or - 0.006. expensive but have lasted me a lot longer than my old 78s. been 3 yrs and havent broke one yet. be sure to paper tune that will tell you if you need a heavier or lighter spine. there is a article on this sight about the paper shooting be sure if your a lefty like me to read the bottom or the article, im bass ackwards!
