They max out at 20" trunk size , I would describe mine as "serviceable" , they aren't what you could call a fancy stand . I don't like the cheap sling seat on it , so I have to tote a cushion along , it's also a bit heavy at 26# . For a cheap first stand they will get the job done .

Which climber do you have kevin1? I have the non-typical lite and it is awesome. I looked at both the summits and the non-typical lites and have experience using both. I have hunted out of friends summits quite a few times. I like the cable system on my non typical better than the summits and it is MUCH quieter, plus the whole thing weighs in at 18lbs, pretty light for a climber. The bar that swings up and down is awesome too, lets you sit on it while climbing and you can flop it over your lap to take a nap w/ no chance of falling out. I love this stand it is the most comfortable stand I have ever used. It is MUCH cheaper than summit too.

i also have a non-typical light and i love it . i think you get a stand that is built just as good as the others at a much better price .

I don't recall what the model name is , but it's a base level model that Wal-Mart was selling several years ago for $100. It's an old climber bar style with a thin cloth seat suspended from a couple of webbing straps . I later upgraded(slightly) to a Hunter's View Prarie Falcon cable climber that weighs 19# , although it has a similar style seat to the Ameristep . I'm not positive , but aren't HV and Ameristep made by the same company ? Both are serviceable climbers for the money , but I'm still gonna save up for a Summit . The old ones will be relegated to "trainer" status for my grandkids here on my property once the Summit comes home .

I still really think everyone should look at the non-typical lites............ I have an objective opinion and think it is just as high of quality, better cable system, lighter, and cheaper. The non-typical lites are a far cry from the ameristeps of the past. They are a top notch system and I went to the store planning on buying a summit and ended up with an ameristep.

I have a non-typical-lite and I really like the hook up system alot better
then the summit or the lone wolf climbers.

My Lone Wolf sit and climb weighs 14lbs and is SILENT going up the tree.

Go with a lone wolf hang on and 4 climbing sticks (web site is an excellent place to purchase) and you can go up any crazy oak, maple, poplar, or whatever stupid forked tree just happens to be in the perfect spot.
