Magnus Stinger

My friend keeps telling me that I should shoot the Magnus Stinger 4 blade 85 gr broadheads for the bowhunting season next year. I was just wondering if these are any good or if not can i have some other suggestions.

I took down two hogs with these last weekend. They did massive damage. One hog ran 60 yds the other about 30 yds. One hit the opposite shoulder and when I pulled it out the blade was broke but with the performance they give you coupled with lifetime warranty, I wasn't that mad.

Nahhhh.....they aren't any good at all. Tell ya what, instead of 85 gr get 100 gr and just send them to me. :D:D:D

Awesome heads. They fly like darts and are the sharpest heads out of the package. They also have a lifetime warranty on them.

I, as other's have said, think that Stingers are awesome broadheads.SO far they have never required tuning and are very accurate. I will suggest the new Stinger Buzzcut. They leave a better blood trail and fly just as good. I took this hawg with a Buzzcut three weeks ago. He weighed over 500 lbs and only went 15 FEET from where he was shot.

Stingers are great heads and are very durable and extremely sharp.

However the 85 grain head may not be the correct weight head for you to shoot and get the best possible flight from your arrow. Depending on your archery set up you may be better off with the 100 or 125 grain stingers.

I can almost guarantee you (about 90% certain) that you would be better off with a heavier broadhead than the 85 grain.

Don't just go buy the 85 grain head just cause your friend says they are good.

well you can see my setup below will they work or do you think i should go heavier. I may be shooting Easton Axis 500's next year too.

I don't have the numbers for the GT arrows but if you had an axis 500 cut to 25 inches and fletched with three 4" vanes the 85 grain head would give you about 9.5% foc and the 100 grain head would give you about 11% foc.

IMHO the 100 grain would be the better choice and should produce better flight as well.

I always like to keep my foc percentage above 10% and about 13% is where I prefer it to be.

I know it doesn't sound like much but it can make a differance in the flight of your arrow.

I shoot blazers, so do you know what that would produce.

If you are drawing 46# of bow weight, I would stay with the lighter broadheads.

I have used Stingers since they came out and did alot of testing with them as I am a sales person for them so I wont sell anything that isnt up to my standards! I agree with bigbulls above. Anf the 100 grain will give you a bigger cutting area (surface) and larger holes. 15 grains shouldnt affect the FOC that much. I am not in agreement with people who shoot light poundage should shoot a lightweight BH, relatively speaking. As long as the arrow is matched to the BH and the bow, go as heavy as you can as heavier BH's have more advantages (usually). The 85 grain is a great BH and anyone with wind problems for shooting long distances, this BH really helps.

Hoyt08, here are the numbers for you. With your GT 500's using 3" Duravanes and the 85 gr heads your FOC will be 12.4. If you use the 4" Duravanes your FOC will be 11.3. If you go with the 100gr you will be around 14.1. I currently use GTUltralight 400's at 60# and 27" witha 85 gr head and get exceptional performance out to my max range of 45 yards. I have not used the BuzzCut but did use the 4 blade stingers last year without a hitch. I am sure you will do fine with either.

RE: Magnus Stinger

ok well i have made a mistake my arrows are 400's not 500's and i shoot blazers so that is like 15 grains per arrow i think?

RE: Magnus Stinger

great broadheads, I think I would go with the 100 or 125 instead of the 85's but that is just my opinion.
