Treestand umbrella
Has anyone ever used one of these umbrella type thing that you hook to your tree? I would think that the falling rain would either draw attention to you when a deer was near or the sound of the rain hitting it would scare it off. What do ya think?

RE: Treestand umbrella
My Dad used one last Saturday. He was in a climbing stand, sbout 20-22' off the ground in a limbless pine tree. He was hunting in a pretty steady rain and temps about 50 degrees. He used an umbrella. A nice 9 point buck came into the scrapes he was overlooking and he made the shot and killed the best bow buck of his life.

RE: Treestand umbrella
MrMatticus20, I had the same fears as you about the umbrellas before I tried one. After using them when it rains all day for three years now, I must agree with stealthy, they work!
Hope this does`nt tarnish your image too much, stealthy! You know, one of us rude yankees agreeing with ya`ll!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> NRA,UBP,BASS Member New Stanton,PA |

RE: Treestand umbrella
I used on last week in a pouring rain. It saved me from getting soaked to the bone. I had a group of 14 30-50# pigs come in and eat corn with it spooking them. Then I had 3 coyotes (now 2)come in without ever looking up.
The rain hitting the umbrella sounds a lot like the rain hitting the forest floor and fallen leaves to me. |
RE: Treestand umbrella
I used one for the beginning of our bowseason. The rain hitting the umbrella sounds no different than the rain hitting the ground.

RE: Treestand umbrella
That is the only way to go if you hunt when it is raining.
