Ghillie Suits

I asked this question on bowhunting and got virtually no response. Last year I made a ghillie suit for gun season. While on the ground I had a flock of turkeys settle around and stepping over my gunbarrel and me (literally had to clean the turkey poop off the hat and suit).

I modified the chest, hat and left arm (I shoot RH bows)and now have great string clearance. Took it to the woods and sitting on the edge of a clearing watched 3 does get within 5 feet of me(I was downwing) before I took one.

My question is this. Why are ghillie suits not popular? They cost very little to make(about $30), provide camoflogue that snipers use when people are hunting them, are better than any commercial 2 or 3d I have yet to see. Why don't others use them? THEY ARE GREAT!!I have converted several friends and hunting buddies who were laughing at me before the success. Now they laugh with me at their stories.

Hey, size may not matter but it sure IS nice!

I'f you have any pic's of it, I'd love to see them!

I am so glad to see that someone else has had the same idea as myself.... but the courage to follow through with it. I have been considering a Ghillie for 2 years now an all of my hunting buddies have "laughed me out of the idea". They say it will be too hot, bulky, dificult to shoot with, look un-natural in a treestand etc. I still think that it is an awsome idea. I see that Cabellas has over the past 2 years introduced 2-3 Ghillie models. I actually purchased a Ghillie-jacket from ghilliesuits.com (garbage) 2 yrs go but it is sitting in my garage. I hope to see others that have had positive results share them with us an potentially convince me to buy one.

RE: Ghillie Suits

Sooner_Hunter, I too would be interested in pic's or even additional instructions as to how you made your suit. Care to email me on it?

Thanks,

Jim.
