85 or 100 grain and why???

OK... I let my proshop set up the bow for me since I know very little (o.k. nothing) about what I should do. Anyway they set it up and chose 85 grain broadheads as the best for my bow. Then I went to Cabela's the other day and the guy told me he never recommends anything less than 100 grains due to some arrow flight problems past 35 yards??? Anyway, after doing some research on my own the only reason I see to shoot 100 grain tips is the diversity in options.

Help a new guy out... Does it really matter?????

RE: 85 or 100 grain and why???

I think that FOC or front of center is the biggest thing in figuring what weight head you oughtta use. Thats a measurement of how far front of the center of a finished arrow it ballances at.I shoot 100 grain & have been told its too light because I shoot 2219's & they are a heavy arrow. They fly great tho & I didn't know I was breaking a rule till they told me at the shop. They had set me up with 100's using 2413's & theyre alot lighter & I switched without consulting them.
They tell me alot of guys shoot light carbons & can use lighter heads & still have a decent FOC.
I guess in your spot I'd just shoot both & see what happens. I never shot a lighter head but have shot 125's & they fly fine too, just not to the same spot but I'd hunt with them. You may be fine with either or one might fly better. Try them with broadheads tho too.

Depends on what arrows you are using, what type of fletching, and how long the arrows are.

It is best to have the arrows ballance point about 10 - 15% foward of the arrows true center. This is called FOC or foward of center.

On top of what all the other guys have said...it would be better to error on the heavy side, and 100s are the most common broadheads. "IF" they are the wrong choice you might sacrifice a few FPS but have a quieter bow.

To tell you the truth, 15 grains is not going to make much of a difference. But as BigBulls has said FOC should be a considering factor.
