I can only say what I have seen with my own two eyes. I have replaced the broken or splintered limbs on 3 in the last six months.

My opinion? Inferior product. Very good customer service.

Don't get it. The local shop has repaired or replaced over a dozen of that particular model in the last 12 months. Everything from the safety, bolt supressor, scope mounts, etc... has gone awry. It would be the last model I would recommend...and I rarely post something totally negative on a product.

Thanks. I will avoid the Barnett.I am starting to believe that an Horton, Excalibur,Ten Point or Draw-Locis the way to go. Thoughts?

Horton is only about one more step up the ladder from Barnett. If you want quality then look only at Ten Point or XCaliber.

Take note of all the plastic parts on the cheap ones, such as sight mounts and such. This often helps to tell the difference. There are others, too, but plastic kinda tells the tale.

Crossbows have been legal up here in Ontario for years and the two most common brands are the Excaliber and Ten Point. Both are high end and expensive but when you study a crossbow closely you quickly realize that they are not an item to cheap out on. If it has to be cocked at full draw with an arrow for hours on end do you really want a pc of junk up in the treestand with you ?

DO NOT get a Barnett or a Horton. Send that money to a charity if you never want to see it again. Excalibur or 10 Point is about it. Spend more, get more.

I bought a Barnett Ranger 150 lb. a few years ago as a starter bow to try out and practice with , and even hunt with it . It's done that job well , but I agree with the others that it's not what I want in the long term . I moved up to an Eagle-I 180 lb. recurve style , which was similar enough in design that the transition to the heavier poundage was simple . My next move will be to save up for an Excalibur , model to be determined . I don't like compound models , too many moving parts for my taste , and the Excaliburs are more than fast enough .

Barnett and Horton are somewhat like training wheels on a bike , nice to have at first , but eventually you want to ride a better bike .
