Which portable blind?
Which blinds do you all suggests in terms of adequate size for bowhunting? Some examples I've looked at on ebay are the Ameristep Doghouse and Stackhouse. Both claim to be large enough, but I'd like some of your opinions. Is is really necessary to have one tall enough to stand and shoot in such as the stackhouse? I'm 69" tall with 28" drawlength. Any info would help.

RE: Which portable blind?
If you're uncomfortable shooting from a seated position , or shoot a trad bow , then the Stackhouse or other taller blinds can really help . The straighter sides also help guard against the limb slappping against the walls .

t2 by double bull

RE: Which portable blind?
With a 31 inch draw I have no problem shooting from a seated position out of the regular Doghouse though the Doghouse TSC gives you another 8 inches of room. I think the smaller overall size of the shorter blinds allows them to blend in a bit better to the surroundings. I just don't see the benefit of standing up to shoot in most of my hunting situations.

RE: Which portable blind?
I've gotta be honest. I worked at Gander Mt. and saw some ameristep doghouse blinds get returned....due to faded material. If I were you I would strongly consider investing in a doublebull especially a matrix 360. It'll be an investment that will pay off in the future.

RE: Which portable blind?
What about shooting arrows through the mesh of the DB 360? Sounds scary.
|
RE: Which portable blind?
i just posted about shooting through the mesh. it's nothing to it. it's like it isnt there. i have had no problems with my t2 and shooting through the mesh...out to about 40yds

RE: Which portable blind?
I use a doghouse

RE: Which portable blind?
You just won't find ANY of the cheaper blinds that will compare to the quality and duraility of the Double Bulls. I have a Matrix and a T5 and they are absolutely top notch!

RE: Which portable blind?
I personally found that the doghouse, and the other types of tall single person blinds, made it difficult to draw in without hitting one of the four walls.
I have been using the Hunters View WigWam blind and have had great success with it. I'm 6'2" and can't stand in it, but have no problem shooting from a seated possition or on one knee. Plenty of room to draw and move inside. Easy set up, and take down, and a great deal less then the double bulls. I think I paid around $70.00 for my WigWam. Well worth the money and very happy with it. Hope it helps. |
RE: Which portable blind?
Ameristep Bighouse...plenty of room to stand and shoot, also more shooting angles...it is a hub blind. HUGE. (but notTOO huge).
|
RE: Which portable blind?
I bought the Double Bull Matrix after owning a couple of the cheaper models out there. In my opinion, for what it's worth, is that there is no comparison. The only drawback is the price but if you plan on using it for a number of years, like I do, it's worth the money.

RE: Which portable blind?
I have the ameristep penthouse you can stand up and shoot out of it but it is just to big wish i never bought it really. Its is also heavy really( 20lbs)two big to be carrying around the woods unless you leave it there, but some jerk would problely steal it anyway, if he could haul it out of the woods without pulling his backout:D. But if you want room it has plenty (78" square x 90" tall)

RE: Which portable blind?
Double Bull, it is worth the money! No need for camo either. You can wear black clothes and they back up their product 100%.

RE: Which portable blind?
Double Bull Archery...I shot my first Antelope this year frm my buddy's BS5. I'll own a Matrix next season for sure. The best on the market..period.

RE: Which portable blind?
I bought a Ameristep Brickhouse. And I like this.
It is around $120-$150 depending on where you get it. It is a hub blind and sets up and takes down in less than a minute. Very good design and roomy enough for 2 people. I use it for when I take the kids out hunting and also turkey hunting. |
RE: Which portable blind?
The brickhose and bouble bull what is the weight when carrying to your set ups
|
RE: Which portable blind?
DB Matrix..and full size DBblinds 20 lbs.....T2...12 lbs..Not sure on the other models...ie outhouse, penthouse, doghouse, I dont know. I'm used to carrying 20 lb treestands into the woods, why not trading a blind for one sometime. My wallet will open up for a DB next year. These are some AWESOME blinds IMO...silent windows, shoot through mesh, lifetime framework warranty, and built by archery hunters for archery hunters..although anyone can use them.

Have used the penthouse from Ameristep for four years now lots of
room,never scared any game,just my opinon.:) |
RE: Which portable blind?
Hands down Double Bull Blinds are the best.Period.

RE: Which portable blind?
Not for nuthing but they all work. Just make sure its big enough for you to draw in & go from there.
I will say dont get an outhouse. I did & its just too small to draw in period. I have a big one, I think its a hunters view lodge but could be wrong. Its 7 feet square & 7' tall. I dont stand to shoot but you can if you want.. No mesh tho but its nice to stand & stretch once in awhile & in a big one you can. I also have 3 of the dog house blinds. Theyre 5 feet square & you cant stand up. If your much bigger than me you might not be able to shoot tho. I draw 28" & need to draw from the corner. Theyre alot easier to tuck away tho & more versatile. A $300 one might last longer but then I'd only have one. Now I got 4 :D. Theyre all pretty waterproof too. In a real downpour you might get dripped on but I never had to leave. The shoot thru mesh works but I dont use it much as I find it hard to spot the deer thru underbrush with it up. Its unnerving at first but they wont see you in there as long as no window behind you is open. I like the blinds myself. :D |
RE: Which portable blind?
I really enjoy my Ameristep Brickhouse. It is sturdy enough to not flap in teh wind and it is also roomy enough for me to dram a bow in a shooting or a seating posistion. I have had dear sitting right behind and i could feel there breths on the outside of the blind.

RE: Which portable blind?
I have a Ground max DX which is all I need in a ground blind. Excellent color and texture ( no shine) on the fabric and sets up like a breeze. It also held up nicely during some insane winds this fall.

RE: Which portable blind?
I'm suprised no one has mentioned the Carbon Venture blinds by eastman Outfitters. These are a hub style blind like the Double Bulls, but at a raction of the price. You can get it with the Safari system which helps break up the outline of the blind. Check them out, next to a DB they are probably the best on the market. I've never been impressed with any of the Ameristeps.

RE: Which portable blind?
I have a question about the hub style blinds. I only use a pop up for spring turkey hunting with the bow. I do move around a bit when hunting turkeys. With my turkey vest on full of stuff, carrying a bow, and the doghouse on my back in it's small round bag, put on over my full turkey vest is a little heavy to carry around, but is fairly easy to transport everything on foot. With the hub style blinds, they are in a sack in a tube shape, correct? If you use the blind turkey hunting on foot, will the hub blind be a pain in the you know what to move around with, along with all your other gear? I aske because I would like a little more room inside a blind, such as the Matrix, but am not really willing to give up the ability to be mobile. What do you all think?
