RE: buying my first bow

My best advice is not to buy into all the gimmicks and gadgets. Keep it simple in terms of equipment and you cannot go wrong. A basic bow setup in my opinion includes the bow, a simple 3 pin fiber optic sight, a quiver an arrow rest, a dozen arrows and a release.

I don't mean to hi-jack a thread, but is Bas Pro a good place to shop? I guess what I'm asking is how knowledgeable are their people? Does it just depend on the store?

DJ, don't be in a hurry to buy a bow. Take you're time and shoot a few different manufacturers and models before you make you decision. If you go to a few reputable archery shops, they will be more than happy to help you choose a bow and accessories that will fit your shooting style, strength and draw length. Most pro shops only handle bows that they have had good experience with. Stay away from the department store bargain bows. It may be a good bow, but quite often, they have no knowledge whatsoever in setting up, correct arrows, rest or any of the necessities needed to match the equipment to you.
Good Luck and welcome to a great sport.

RE: buying my first bow

I just bought my first bow in Feb.I shot quite a few and picked the switchback.I was going to get the fx2 but I knew if I liked shooting I would want to up grade. That means I would sell the fx2 for about half of what I paid for it and then pay for the switchback so I figured I saved money by getting the best right off the bat.So I got the newest and best mathews made as far as hunting bow.Now I can't upgrade at least till next year and if not I have a great bow for the rest of my life.Dont forget bowtec they are great bows also.
