Arrow choices???
Guys,
Posted this on the bowhunting forum but thought this might be a better place for this question....
Need some help deciding on some new arrows for hunting season. Hunt whitetails only.
My set up: 2005 Patriot SC, 28 draw, 66 lbs, 27 1/2 inch arrow. 100 gr spitfire
Currently shooting GT XT 5575's weighing 384 gr. total weight. They fly pretty good but am concerned their too light?? Would like to get over 400 gr for hunting.
First...is that weight in arrow too light for my set up?
I've narrowed my choices to:
- GT Pro Hunter 5575 8.2 gpi
- CE CX Hunter 300's 9.4 gpi
- Easton Axis 400's 8.95 gpi or 340's 9.53 gpi (spine??)
I had decided on the AXIS but after reading some posts on this board I'm a little concerned about the quality. Now I'm second guessing the decision. With these expensive arrows want to make the right choice.
Want spine consistency more than anything!!
Thanks.

RE: Arrow choices???
Well, currently you are shooting 5.8 grains per pound (gpp). Some would say that is too light, but not me. That is just right, IMO. One easy thing you can do to add weight is shoot a heavier tip, but that may make your FOC off kilter. A Beman ICS hunter camo 400 would put you at 405 grains.A Beman ICS hunter black 340 would be about 417. With a 27.5 inch arrow, I am afraid a 340 will be too much spine. A camo carbon arrow will add weight, and most likely put you in the 400 gr range. A Beman black max 400 will work. At 9.6 gpi that should put you over 400.
Now, let's say you are shooting that 384 grain arrow 275 fps. Comes to 64 pounds of KE. Let's also say you are shooting a 400 grain arrow 270 fps, also comes up to 64 pounds of KE.
Which leads me to my original statement, you are not too light now.

RE: Arrow choices???
Thanks guys.
Mo - after reading your post and doing some other research I tend to agree with you on not being too light right now. And come to think about it I tend to shoot more accurate with lighter arrows with this set up so maybe I shoot stay in that range. I also prefer the one pin set up so I need the flattest trajectory possible in case of a shot taken over 30 yrds which is unlikely. Now...I'm considering the new CE Maxima arrow at 8.2 gpi so that would leave me around the same weight.

Yes I love vapors. I can't help it. I was using gold tips with my edge and then I changed and I can see a big difference. How do you feel about them? I shoot everyday and with the gold tips I had a pretty good pattern at 40 yards but with the vapors I can put 10 arrows in the size of a CD. They just seem to fly better.
