MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I am in the process of setting up my new Mathews Switchback with carbon arrows and 100 grain broadheads. I used to shoot Thunderheads but I now want to switch to Muzzys. I like the way they shoot but cannot decide on the 3 blade or 4 blade. I notice the cutting diameter is 1 1/8 with the 3 blade to 1 inch on the 4 blade. I would like to hear what kinda penetration and blood trails you get with both. Thanks alot

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I admit I am not a real experienced bow guy, but I had problems with the 4 blade not flying well. Put the 3 blade on the exact same arrow and ithit within an inch of my field point. I dont know why, so I just stuck with the 3 blade. Bothwere 100 gr Muzzy's. I hunt elk and mule deer and the pro shop said the 3 blade will usually penetrate better than the 4 blade. Someone else may have much better technical explanation, but that wasmy experience with them.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
You should also look at the Slick trick 100 4 blade. Very good reviews on them from what I can see. I will be trying them myself on mybear huntthis fall. I think that 4th blade gives a little more cutting surface and should be more effecient.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
Yep, what Terry said.
Slick tricks are bad through the bone where as muzzies are only bad to the bone.;) Best broadhead made today. |
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
Thanks for everyones input. I also have heard alot about the Slick Tricks. When it comes to hunting gear I noramally like to go with something proven over the years. I know Muzzys have a good reputation. The more I read reviews and specs on the Slick Trick, the more I want them. I like the fact that they have a 1 1/8" cutting diameter compared to the Muzzy 4 blade of only 1 inch. Plus that look sick. Really good chance that I will shoot 100 grain Slick Tricks on some Carbon Express arrows.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
Definately give the Slick Trick's a try. I have always been partial to Thunderheads, mainly because they were scary sharp, easy to tune and I could always get them to fly better than a 4 blade head.
After a lot of reading on the Slick Tricks I decided to try one. They fly great....I will be using them along with the Thunderheads this year to compare the results. |
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
The Slick Tricks are definitely a worthy head and continue to gain a larger and larger following, year after year. I have always had very good success with the Muzzy 3 blade 100 grain heads though and used them exclusively before switching over to Rockets 3 years ago.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I shot the 4 blade Muzzy's last year with no problems. I have not tried the 3 blade Muzzy but plan to this summer. I thought about the slicks as well but the steep blade angle has held me off of them, seems like they would skid off bones on a close steep angled shot.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
After more than 20 years of using other broadheads, I switched to Muzzy's a couple years ago. I shoot the 3 blade 125 grain Muzzy's and have had excellent results. In the two years I've been using them, I've taken 10 or 11 deer with them and most never made it over 45 yards. Thunderheads are also very good and I hear good things about the slick tricks, but I've had any personal experience with them.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I used the muzzy 4 blade 100 gr. last year, and shot a 4 pointer from 31 yards. The arrow passed through the lungs and buried in the ground. The deer ran about 40 yards and down he went. There was blood EVERYWHERE. You couldnt have asked for more.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I use 3 blade 100 grain Muzzy's. They work great. I have never had a penetration problem and they fly very true.
|
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I have been shooting Muzzy three blade 125's for years and have taken several deer at 40+ yards with every shot being a clean passthrough, with an awesome bloodtrail. The extra energy the 125 gives you over a 100 is worth the slight drop off in speed ! its all about down range energy not speed !

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
They are both great broadheads. Generally speaking the 4 blade will fly just a little better at longer distancesthan the 3 blade but will also have less penetration.
Either one is a great choice. |
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I like the way the Muzzy4 blade is designed. They are rock solid and fly as good as my field points!I used the practice blades and never had to adjust my sights!
|
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
the 4 blade is a stronger head, as wel;l, due to the locking blades. The 4 blade 125 is pretty nasty. It leaves a big hole.
|
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
The 3 blade will have better pentration and the 4 blade will fly just a little better in the wind. I shoot the 4 blades but you could not go wrong with either one.
|
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
While a 3 blade will penrtrate better than 4 blades, the 4 is no slouch either. The 4 will have a better bloodtrail as compared the 3. Both heads are great and will pass thru anything you shoot. For me the three blades are my choice.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
For what its worth, I believe John Muz has said that most people at Muzzy shoot the 4 blades.
|
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I shot a six pointer @ about 25 yds from a ground blind useing a 4 blade 100gr. Muzzy. Complete pass thru. The shot was good {double lung} and any broadhead would have done the job, but these heads shoot like field tips from my bow and give my great confidence in the shot.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I had 2 pass thru's last year using the Muzzy 3 blade. I shot a doe slightly quartering away, and it broke 2 ribs, and cut the windpipe in half. The deer went 40 yards. I shot my buck thru both lungs, and I saw him go down!! I absolutely love Muzzy's!! I don't think I will ever use another B/H.:D:D

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I've used both and I get better flight from the 4 blade. As far as penetration goes you'll never see the difference.
|
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
Wisc, I won a 3 pack of 3 blade, 100 gr. Muzzy's at a recent charity shoot. Send me a message with your mailing address and I'll get them off to you. I'll never use them.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
i love muzzy 3 blade 125 gr

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I used the 4-blade Muzzy with my Bear XLR with excellent results. When I switched to my Bowtech Patriot the 3-blade Muzzy grouped better with the improved speed. Both went through the bone with complete passthrus. I know of someone who used Slicktricks and liked them well also. Shot placement is the key my friend. Shoot whatever groups for you. ;)

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I've been shooting 100 grain 4 blade muzzy for 4 years. Harvested numerous deer and a bear with none going more than 60 yards. They have always shot great and pentrated outstanding. I practice with the practice blades so it stays dead on when I have the blade in as well. I have never shot the 3 bladers.

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
when I first started reading and researching bow hunting and bows & equipment (about 6-7 years ago) on book simply stated the pros and cons for the 2
- 3 blade - better flight (to some degree), more penetration, less gutting ability - 4 blade - the opposite i went with the 3 blade Muzzy and have been pleased |
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
Three blade Muzzie 100's here also. I've tried the 4 blades, couldn't get consistent flight out of 'em.
Kindest Regards, -Will in Maryland |
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
I use both and both fly true. I have my maxima 250's tipped with 100gr muzzys! No need to change or try anything different! It ain't broke so no need to try and fix it!!:):):):)

RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
i've shot both the 3 blade 100's and 4 blade 100's as well as 4 blade 90 grain
so far i've killed deer with all three. . .i shoot a PSE 300gr radial x weave pro w/ a 2004 PSE Bruin bow topped with the lightning 3 cam. i think either will work as long as u get a good clean shot, but even if ya don't get the shot of a lifetime, last year i hit a big buck with the 4 blade 90 gr and the 28" arrow sank straight through one sholderblade and punctured the other (all that was stickin out of his sholder was 4" of arrow with feathers) the buck locked up and hobbled off 200yds before i saw him drop, but that broadhead busted right through his sholder. . . my advice, either will kill. . . . |
RE: MUZZY 3-BLADE OR 4-BLADE
shoot the 4 blade. it holds together better and cuts more!
