Mathews vs. Bowtech
 

I was thinkning about an upgrade. I have shot for years and claim to be pretty decent. I curently have a PSE Carrera and it has done me well. I am thinking about buying a Mathews or a Bowtech for several reasons (short axle length is appealing to me). Both are similar yet different. I have shot a Mathews but not the Bowtech. I want to know the main differences between the two (cost aside) and things to look for. Is there any kick feel to the Bowtech? Are the two equal in smoothness? you get the idea....

This will give a pretty good idea of how they stack up........It's generally accepted so far that the Switchback is maybe a little more recoil and vibration free than the Bowtech Allegiance, but everything else is pretty similar.......except apparently for the speed which is where the slight difference in shot feel is obviously coming from. In the test I linked above the Allegiance was considerably faster than the Switchback and only slightly behind in the other categories head to head.
Regardless they are both very mild shooting high performance bows.....

I have a Mathews Legacy right now and I love it. It is my second Mathews and my next bow will be a Mathews also. If I was going to buy a new bow right now it would be the Switchback., they are awesome bows. Bowtec makes a very good bow also. I would say shoot them both and get the one that feels the best.

Nice job Matt. I think that review does a very good job at comparing those two bows. Ultimately though it will be up to you as a shooter to see what specific characteristics you find most appealing with either bow. One thing that test does not consider though is customer service. Bowtech's is excellent. I can verify that.

Years ago i noticed a difference in a bow with duel cams and a solo cam bow. The solo cam (which is the style I have now) was much smoother than the duel cam bow that I had (Flatliner with hatchet cams). Is there any difference now since the evolution of technology...or are they close to the same?

just feel both. I like a smaller grip so Allegiance for me!

You'll have to shoot them both for yourself to be sure.

I ended up with the Alliegance. The recoil between the Switchback and the Alliegance is about the same. The bowtechs recoil (what little there is) is there and gone. The mathews recoil seems to last longer. Kind of like a light ring. Noise is about the same. Smoothness is about the same just different with the Bowtech being frontloaded. They are both awesome. The bowtech is just about 15 fps faster.:)

I shot the Switchback,Alliegance,and the Old Glory,also I already have a LX.All of these bows were very good shooters.
But, when I shot the Hoyt Vtech,thats the bow I bought.The Vtech just had everything I was looking for in one "package"...Bob

The bowtech binary cam system will allow you to shoot different arrows and bhead combinations without much fiddling. That is nice. It will also work more effciently with heavy arrows. The allegiance loves heavier arrows. Mine, set at 83 lbs, shoots a 660 gr arrow at 247, @ a 28inch draw. It shoots a 440 gr @ 305 and a 560 grain at 266.For 28 inches, that is impressive. To put it into context, I shot my allegiance against a black max set at 85lbs. This is the one with the 50% let off, at 28 inches. The black max is the matthews speed bow. The lighter arrow was 10 fps faster, adv black max, but when we shot the 660 grain arrow, it was only 4 fps faster. Take away the 2 lb extra draw weight adv of the black max and we are talking apples to apples....and the allegiance has a 2 inch brace height advantage over the black max. Just things to consider.

get the one that is the most comfortable to you
