Illinois Bowfishing Get together July 24
 

We are going to have a friendly get-together on the Kankakee River @ the Des Plaines Conservation Area (Wilmington, IL) on Saturday, July 24th.

All are welcome! Bring your boat. If you don't have a boat, let us know, we will probably be able to put you on a boat.

We'll start early on the Kankakee (some of us start earlier than others). We'll have a bbq lunch around noonish back at the Conservation Area.

The Conservation area also has an archery range and a couple of 'hand trap' shotgun ranges. So you could have all sorts of fun there. :D

We'll be taking the boats in the backwaters looking for carp, gar and buffalo. This area is right at the junction of the Kankakee, Illinois and Des Plaines river.

We will also be having two get-togethers in August (7th & 28th) at Starved Rock State Park on the Illinois River. Hopefully we can find some Bighead and Silver carp there.

I don't have my bow set up this year for bow fishing (yet) but I do have a nice deck boat for shooting and i'm not too far away from Wilmington.
If there are people that need a boat please let me know and if there is enough interest I'll bring mine. I can seat probably 4 shooters comfortably.

bad news - i broke the shift lever off my boat yesterday on the lake.
Had to drive 3 miles back to the ramp with a small pair of pliers (more difficult than it sounds[:@])

Unless I can get a replacement welded on this week then I am not going to make the get together this weekend. :( I'll keep you posted

HAZCON7, I sure hope you can make it.

The throttle on our motor broke so we are now using a 1957 Johnson Seahorse. State-of-the-art I tell you. :)

I headed out now to buy some food to cook up at the get together.

how do i find directiosn to this place. i woudl like to shoot my bow fishing but i have not yet gotten the required spools and other equipment.
also could someone please tell me how to get there from say ohhhh Schaumberg? thanks again

We're meeting at the Des Plaines Conservation Area in Wilmington. It's right off of I-55.

I know some people are coming from Hangover Park... er, I mean Hanover Park. I'm headed there from Carpentersville. It's about 75miles from my house, but it's an easy drive thanks to light traffic in the morning and the tollways.

I take I-90 to 290/355 (head south). I-355 to I-55. I'll get the actual address so you can mapquest it.

By the way... we are meeting at the launch starting around 5am. My posse' (heh heh) won't be there until about 6am. We go back to the launch around 12-1pm for lunch.

From schamburg...I355 to I 55 south [st. louis] go south to the wilmington exit, its the exit following arsenal rd. at the s.s., go right. go over the r.r. tracks to the 1st s.s., go left down to the boat ramp.

uh hey were do ya live? because i used to reside in Algonquin. until a year ago. if you are going to be leaving from Carpintersville around 4:30 i coudl meet you somewhere around there before you head up there!

would anyone have a spool i coudl borrow or maybe even an extra bow that i coudl use since i dont have a fishing set up?
i went to Daves Bait but they didnt have any string. i could have bought a spool but thought what good is it if i dont have any string??? :D

I'm in the 'Lake Marian' Subdivision in C'ville.

I'll PM you my info.

We are leaving here at 5am, so we will be getting to the launch a bit later than the other guys.

You may want to try and get to the Kankakee River around 5am with the rest of the guys if you can. (that way you can get set up right away) :)

I'm not sure about having an extra bow, but there will be extra spools, line and arrows available.

Hey Rat!

We brought out 'Carp Control'. We used our back-up motor which is a really, really, really old motor. (I hope E.J.D reads this) ;)

I offered to carve up one of the fish for some fresh river sashimi but nobody seemed interested. heh heh heh.

Yeah that was one OLD motor, mushroom girl.

And I'm not eating anything we catch as long as Ed keeps bringing those sausages. YUM!!!
