RE: What is the best to get started??
I just started bowfishing last year. I bought a basic starter kit with a simple drum style reel and one arrow with the line attacked to the back of the arrow. I quickly learned that an arrow with a safety slide would be a huge improvement. I had my line get tangled on my bowa few times, and the only reason the arrow didn't snap back at me is because I had only 70 pound test line, which broke. If you are planning on doing a lot of bowfishing, I would recommend a better reel, like the AMS Retriever. I get out as often as I can, which isn't all that often, so the simple drum reel is fine for me. And like Mark S said, bowfishing is a HUGE addiction. You will have a lot of fun. Good luck

RE: What is the best to get started??
i have gotten a bunch of people started on it and i ahve found that it is cheaper to go into a pawn shop or a bow shop and find a old bow for 30-50 $$ throw an AMS on it and call it a day. no use in spend big money on a carp rig.IMO.
