RE: After Tilapia, yet once again...
ORIGINAL: FLORIDA_BOWFISHING Amazing how many people don't eat gar. Amazing as well when prepared right. Great shooting. Gotta love when those lily pads start shaking!!! The shorties tasted kinda' muddy, with the longnose tasting much better. I sliced the meat thin, breaded and fried it crisp. Not bad at all. The gar meat didn't seem to keep well in the freezer and gets mushy on me, even when frozen in water-packs. But cooked fresh, it's pretty good. Different texture from other fish, but still good. Yeah, those Tilapia really rattle those lily-pads when they are running around, don't they? BP |
RE: After Tilapia, yet once again...
I always cook mine fresh the next day. Never tried frozen. I only use the frozen ones as shark chum. I dip mine in egg white, flip 'em in bread crumbs and then cook them in extra virgin olive oil. Then we squirt lemon and dip them in duck sauce and or soy sauce. Closest tasting fish to alligator. Awesome. Best of luck on your next trip!
