Police called on bowfishers

1am this morning out on maumee river. Shooting carp like no tomorrow when police boat with lights and sirens going. Shows up guns drawn. Wanting to know why 4 people were shooting into the water or were they shooting the ducks. Some one called saying we were shooting the ducks and dragging them back by the lines. well to make this short when one of the bowfishers pulled out his dnr badge things changed real quick. The police tried there luck with a few shots. One officer did connect.

Wow good old civilians that dont know what is going on but still have to stick their nose in things. But hey at least some of the officers might be hooked on bowfishing now. Is the Maumee river in ohio?

Sounds like their heart was in the right place, just got their facts wrong.
Doing things to help make bowfishing more popular and well known will minimize these type of incidents. The more people understand what we do, the fewer that will think we are up to something illegal, unethical,or wierd.

The police tried there luck with a few shots.
Now that's cool.
Great job.

I had a very similar incident happen a few years back. Just shows what a good relationship with law enforcement is worth.

We solve that problem by having the chief of police hunt with us. One day a lady called and threatened to call the police on us for shooting at night while hog hunting and I asked her if she wanted to talk to the chief. I handed him the phone and she never bothered us again. We also had a neighbor that would drive up and down the fence line to mess up our hunting until he did it when the chief was hunting with us. After a $2000 fine he never did it again.
