I have never been bow-fishing . I live in Colorado , at about 5200 ft . There are some nice reseviors around here , with some big fish . The water is too deep(dark) to see a fish that is any deeper than about a foot or so . Can I bait fish to the top ? Would I have better luck in the day or at night ? Do you have any tips or tactics to lure the fish to me? I do have a boat ,, that should help . Anything I should stay away from ? Thanks for your input . Aim low ,,, right ?

First of all dogslayer, check your state-regulations to make sure which fish you can legally take with a bow before you go out. You can get in alot of trouble if you shoot fish you aren't supposed to. Carp, gar and other 'rough' fish are usually legal bowfishing-species. But make sure you find out first. You'd also have to check there (the regs.) to see if baiting them is legal also. And, yes, aim low. Good luck!

Sorry dude, you can't bowfish above 3000 feet.

In additition to checking the state regs for what species are legal, there may be site specific rules too that do not allow bowfishing in certain areas, usually because of dense human population. Around here, all you need is a fishing license once you find a place.

Try patrolling the shallows where the fish are likely to be closer to the surface. Using some lights at nighttime might help you out. Don't forget feeder creeks, backwaters,and ditches. Carp are everywhere.

Make sure you invest in some polarized glasses too.
You can't shoot what you can't see.
