Bowfishing for turtles, anyone?

I was just curious if I was the only one on here who also bowfishes for turtles. I've shot quite a few painted and mud turtles at my lake cabin in Minnesota but I have yet to get a snapping turtle. Everytime I see one, it's always when I'm fishing and my bow's up at the cabin. Anyone else do this?

They're kinda' protected around here - not the snappers, the others. Besides, too many fish to shoot to mess with turtles.

I would if I could, but unfortunately it's illegal in Illinois.

I shot a big snapper summer before last, was going to take a couple last year but here in MN you can't shoot them in May and June and after that I never saw any. Not much of a thrill to shoot and a pain to clean but they are good eating. I will be looking for snappers again this summer.
