I was just wonder what weight everyone that shoots a recurve has their bow set at. From what I've heard #55 is about right. If anyone could let me know what they think is right for me (I shoot a #70 compound for deer, and am fairly strong for my age and pretty athletic(17)). I also heard that 45-55 is probably ideal for carp and gar, but I was just wonder what everyone thinks would be a decent draw weight for me to be shooting. also the carp bow I have set up now is at #70 and the back up is set at #60. thanks for the help

Well you heard right. :) 45-50-55 is ideal for bowfishing. 60-70lbs is a bit hi. You have a good chance to blow right threw the fish. Not good on carp. The line will split the fish in half if you blow through it like a hot knife through butter.

not to mention having to re-attach the arrow after every hit. Lighten up the draw on them bows.

I shoot 50# recurve and like it.

I shoot 45#, but 55#is fine too.
You're probably going to be better off cranking it down so you can draw and shoot quickly.
Besides, even if a bowfisherman is strong, he'll get tired pretty quick whenhe really gets into a good school andis taking shots as fast ashe can reel them in.
You don't really need that much juice for the common fish.

I shoot a 55 pound recurve, and I think it's a little tiny bit much, but I like it. I think 45-50 pounds is more than enough. I also have a 60 pound compound with round wheels, but the recurve is my favorite.

I used to shoot a 50 lb. recurve and had my arrow bounce off a huge gar im talkin in the 9 to 10 foot range so i bumped up to a 65 lb . havnt had a problem yet i also use some of the new devices out there that stop complete pass through. if you go after smaller gar and carp 45lb to 55lbs is plenty but if you go after TYRANASAURUS GARUS then you need a little more.

I haven't shot my recurve in some time but it is a 45 pounder.
