Default Wonder Lake Carp Derby (N. ILL)

Wonder Lake in Northern Illinois put on a nice carp derby earlier this June.
While the weather conspired against us a bit.. we all had a good time. There was also a nice raffle and food available.

It was a close shoot, the top 6 teams had between 15 and 10 carp. (we shot 11) If we didn't miss every other fish we shot at, we might have placed. [:@]

Center Beach. Carp Derby Command Center.

Some of the boats.. That's Craig (Carpshoot) in the foreground and his boat is the camo one in front. He's telling us the secrets to finding Wonder Lake Carp.... (just wait 'til next year )

Telling fish tales..

Kendall and Katelynn aboard the Central Illinois Rough Fish Control Unit. (tho' on this day, they were really just harrassing the rough fish.. more than they were controlling them.) 8)

Handing out the trophies..

The raffle..

JP and Kendall.. (the sand gnats??)

The only carp photo we took the whole day... a classic example of "When they're not biting... Force feed 'em"

The hand-off of the Golden (brass) Carp. A challenge trophy.. It passes on to the victor of our online/offline, smack-talk challenges.

And for those keeping track...
Team Central Illinois Rough Fish Control Unit (Kendall and Katelynn) = 4 carp
Team Carp Control (Jim and I) = 11 carp

Wonder Lake will be having a night-time fun shoot in the late summer. Watch for more details on this as you should be able to really pile up the carp with a night shoot.

I was wondering what that fish thing was on your boat. Looked like it would be painful to accidentally sit on.

It was our boat's 'figurehead', but we took it off to put the new troller in place.

Not to mention I accidently kneeled on it's tail one night, poking a nice hole in my knee and causing so much swelling I couldn't bend my leg. (that didn't stop me from bowfishing tho'... I bowfished for 11 hours straight that night)

Now that Kendall has taken possession of the Golden (Brass) Carp, his generator gas line sprung a leak and his troller is out of service. (hmmm....)

Red Hawk... you have to be at my version of 'here'... not yours. [8D]

Hey tcooll! I just saw your question now.

That's not my boat... so I can't tell you how those bows are strung. Most people use a stringer tho'.
