Knife Sharpening with a belt sander!

Just added this to the Gregg Compound. All my of my knives are now dangerous! This a great way to get razor sharp!

I have a buddy who makes custom knives by hand. He uses a belt sander for a lot of finish shaping. It sure is a good way to make em razor sharp, but its also easy to take off way too much, if you're not careful.

I can see myself trying this with some "thrift store" knives as you said, maybe even a kitchen knife or two but it'll be a while before I'll feel comfortable putting some of my collection up to a belt sander!

Just found my next purchase. Thanks!

While I might put an elcheapo knife on a belt sander, I would never put any of my good steel knives on a belt sander. Getting an edge on a newly forged knife is far different than maintaining an edge on an existing good knife. It doesn't take me long to put a razor edge on my knives with a 3 sided butcher stone.
