Ceramic Rods
I have a ceramic rod knife sharpener; is it possible to wear out the rods. Lately I cannot put an edge on a blade for awhile. Thanks.

Try washing it with soap and water. They plug up with the material that you are grinding off the blade. If that doesn't help, use some fine emery, 400 grit, and clean the rod. Done it many times, and it works. Another option is to get a small diamond steel. I have one, and it is great for a quick touch up if needed.

Get a green Scotch-Brite pad and some Comet cleanser powder. Use the Comet on the pad, with some hot water. Scrub the ceramic rod with it.
Do this in private, tho.....:s2: |
X2 on using Comet to clean the ceramic rods. It makes the rods cut like new again.

I have tried scrubbing then with Ajax, and also a special black eraser, but no luck.:confused0024: :confused0024:
I talked to the folks at Lansky and they said, "The rods can get so clogged they won't sharpen anymore or be cleaned.:confused0024::confused0024: Thanks. |
Use the above method with the scratch pad and "Bar Keepers Friend" scrubbing cleanser under hot water. Always works for me. If all else fails, find a hot water type pressure washer. They will come clean.
