.99 box cutter. Zips a deer open quicker than anything ive used even skinned, and butchered w/ em, its also good in case you have to cut yourself out of you saftey harness/vest quickly. if you lose or break it, who cares? Not too pretty though.

I use a Gerber Gator Fixed Blade, its a great knife. The no-slip handle is great for gutting, and the curve in the handle works great for skinning. I also typically carry Leatherman for all purpose cutting and utility work when needed.

With this combo, pretty much ready for anything from skinning a squirrel to gutting a moose - from removing a splinter to performing emergency gun repair.

Also never leave home with out a hand-held sharpener in my pack, doesn't give as good of an edge as a diamond stone, but it can put a decent edge on a knife pretty quickly when in a pinch.
