knight muzzeloader virgin, needs help with loads
 

i just bought a knight disc rifle, and i was wondering what loads you were having luck with. i will be using powder pellets. are there any better ones than the pyrodex pellets? does anybody like the power belt bullets? or areo tipped bullets? this is my first muzzeloader, and any help (especially from knight shooters) would be greatly appreciated.

I THINK LOOSE POWDER IN PYRODEX WILL BE THE BEST CHOICE.I MYSELF USE SELECT GRADE.AS FAR AS BULLETS IT WHAT THE RIFLE WILL SHOOT THE BEST.POWERBELT IN MY RIFLE ARE O.K. BUT THE BETTER CHOICE FOR ME ARE PERCISION SABOT'S.IN THE 50 CAL. THE QT'S 40 IN 235 GRAIN ARE OUTSTANDING FOR LONG RANGE SHOOTING .START WITH 90 GRAINS AND WORK UP TO 120 NO MORE UNTIL YOU GET THE BEST GROUPS.GOOD LUCK THIS SEASON.

Congrats on your Knight, They are a great rifle.
I have the Knight Disc Extreme shoots real fine.
just one big ol hole at 100 yards. the best B.P.gun I have ever shot!! My load is 100gr (BY volume} of Triple 7 / 2F with 295 gr. power bilt aero tip bullet.

I concur with the above posts.......you'll find loose powder to be more consistent & more accurate. Pellets are more expensive to shoot and really aren't that much more convienent. But if you go with the pellets.....stick with the Pyro - they're the best of the bunch.

If going with the PowerBelts, try the 348gr aerotips - they are real consistent in my Knight USAK. Lone wolf gives good advice on the Precision Rifle bullets - there are none better IMHO.

I shoot 100 grains of 2F and a 300 grain XTP in a sabot.

are the knight "ballistic tipped" bullets very good? the guys i hunt with all use the knight jacketed bullets (240 gr((i think)) and pyrodex pellets. we killed alot of deer with these. why hasn't anyone mentioned using 3 pellets? is it just because 2 pellets is more stable on accuracy?

The Knight poly-tipped bullets are made by Precision Rifle - identical to the PR Qt bullets. But they are overpriced (compared to buying them either from Cabelas or Precision Rifle) and only come in the lighter weights which (IMHO) don't work as well in either the accuracy or knockdown dept.......at least that is how it works out with my rifle anyway.

I shoot a Knight DISC w/ two 50 gr. Pyrodex pellets and a 245 gr. Swift A-Frame sabot. Hits dead on waaay out there.

Shooting 150 grains of powder is generally a waste of at least 20 grains, if not more. Most tests show that gains in velocity are almost nil in standard legth inlines when you go above 120 grains. The exception being Triple7, in which case going above 100 grains is likely a waste (and darned hard on your shoulder!). Why burn extra powder for so little gain, so much more recoil, and more expense? Those that think they need to shoot three 50 grain pellets or 120 grains of loose powder "because they can" are likely not finding the most accurate load for their rifles.

Triple7 is some very "hot" powder so don't even think about 150 grains of it. Hodgdon specifies a max of 120 grains (at least they did last I checked). 70 grains of powder behind 300+ grain bullets should certainly kill ANY deer if the shot is good.
