BM3 +Shockwave 300s from an Omega

I am a newbie ML shooter so I thought I'd ask for some help. I have an Omega and would like to shoot BM3 and Shockwaves. I heard that Shockwaves give better accuracy than Powerbelts, so I thought I'd try them first. I spoke with Customer Service at T/C and was told that they initially got a bad batch of Shockwaves (hard to load), but have since corrected the problem (the ring on the basecup is the indicator for the bad sabot according to T/C). With a 300 grain Shockwave, what should I use for a starting charge of BM3? I'm planning a Montana deer hunt in the fall and wish to set the gun up to make 200 yard shots. Should I switch to 250 grain instead of 300 grain bullets? I thought that with the heavier bullet, I'd have better killing power at the 200+ yard distance.

I would limit the upper level to 120gr. of Black Mag'3 with the 300gr. bullet. I was getting 2000fps with 100gr. of Black Mag'3 under a 300gr. bullet in a Harvester sabot. If you are going to shoot 200 yards at animals I hope you plan to practice a lot!!

If you are talking about whitetails, You might want to consider the 250 grain SST's. I haven't tried the 300 grainers, don't plan to either, but have found that the 250s give outstanding results. A bit better ballistics too.
Really, how heavy do you need to be for a white tail, a 50 cal 250 grain bullet is more than enuff. With the outstanding ballistics, relatively flat performance of the SSTs out to 200 yards and super terminal performance, well, I have found what I will be using for the next couple of years.

I've never had the pleasure of shooting Black Mag 3 but as for shockwaves, both of them are more then enough to take a whitetail or mule deer, even bigger. I would try both of the projectiles and then choose the one that gives you the best 200 yard accuracy...

The 200 gr Shockwave works well on deer also. As you reduce from 300 -250 - 200, you will likely need to reduce your powder charge for best accuracy. Try around 95-100 grains BM3 or 777 using a 200 gr Shockwave out to 200 yards. That light grain bullet still maintains it's high profile length like Precision QT & DC poly-tips -- all three designed for good co-efficiency.

I've had excellent results with the 300gr SST and BM'3

As mentioned, consider 120gr BM'3 your max load. I'm getting good accuracy with the 120gr, but slightly better with 110gr at 100yards and the 300gr SST.
