real blackpowder obsolete
I live in Saskatchewan, Canada so it is not easy to find real blackpowder. However I found a retailer who sells it and he told us that after this year we will no longer be able to buy blackpowder anywhere as it will no longer be available. Is there any truth to this statement or or is this just a story that we are being told?

RE: real blackpowder obsolete
It is getting harder and harder to find even in the land of the free. It is still a "explosive". But with all the other alternatives, thats ok too.

I think I would try to contact Goex and ask them. They will know for sure what the legal requirements are and where the powder can or cannot be sold.

That would be a real problem to all the flintlock shooters. I do not care what alternative powder you want to use, or duplex your loads, there is nothing that shoots like straight black powder. I have not heard anything of the sort being claimed on the different sites I visit. I am sure once or if there is a set date, there will be a mad rush on the stuff and people will stockpile. Until then lets all keep our fingers crossed and hope that all our rights to own items will not be taken away.

I guess the writing on the wall for me is when Goex is Marketing Pinnacle so hard these days.

RE: real blackpowder obsolete
Well they better market it a little better. It did go off in my flintlock but it is nothing like real black powder. In fact I had so many misfires with Pinnacle that I wondered if I was going to get the thing to ever fire off. With a black powder prime it did do a lot better job at going off...

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer fellas ,
but even I know the formula for gunpowder . Y'all hardcores might want to bone up on that and ball casting if things keep going the way they are . I like Pyrodex™ just fine personally . |
RE: real blackpowder obsolete
Knowing the formula for black powder and making it is two different things. I had a friend who made some many many foolish years ago. I even helped him a little. He thought he made it right. One spoon full would pop and the next would boom! No consistancy. Plus there is the danger of making it. Many homeowner insurance policys might not take a new hobby like that very well if you were to re-arrange the furniture big time. Lets just hope this is all a nasty rumor with no basis.

I don't know if obsolescense can be blamed, it has been obsolete for over a hundred years. Regulated out of existance is a more likely cause. Funny how everything that happens results in a reduction of freedom ain't it? [X(]
