How many use Pyrodex in sidelocks?
 

I just ran out of goex. I have never used pyrodex for sidelocks. Is it recommened with the factory nipple?

I'd hate to guess how many pounds of Pyrodex RS and Select I have shot through sidelocks rifles in my time. It works just fine, and the only way to see if the factory nipple will throw enough spark down is try it. I shot lots of Pyrodex through the T/C factory nipple but then I noticed they are now called stainless steel hotshot nipples.

Actually I have one old Renegade that shoots excellent with Pyrodex...

I have shot a lot ofPyrodex RS in my TC New Englander.I use a hot shot nipple and never had a problem. It also shoots well with PRB and 60gr 777 or 385 Great plains with 80gr 777. The PRB is my fun to shoot load.I never shot at deer with it,but the conical is death to deer.

Only consider the FFF due to grain size. The FF grains are enormous (rock salt size) and won't provide instantaneous ignition in a host of sidelocks.

I shoot pyrodex RS which is a FFG and it shoots fine. I will try FFFG some time when. I use just an ordinary niple with my 50 cal TC hawken.
