This is the exact set-up I used this past year on deer with my .45 inline. I used it for both ML and modern gun season. I filled all of my tags and never had a deer run more than 15-20 yards, three of which never took another step. I own a .45 and .50 and enjoy both. I think alot of people go back and forth on the .45. I'm pleased with mine.

Well lets see Bigcountry what hype that would be. The over stated
muzzle velocity of most 50ca ML's. Never hear anyone talk about
the kinetic energy of a 50 do you? You know why because they
have everybody fooled with the action/ reaction theory. Granted
the 50cal ML is a very good weapon. But it's the HYPE you know
what I'm talking about. The 45 cal ML will have screaming fast
muzzle vel. And the energy transference will make any engineer
smile. The 45 will shoot a flater trajectory with amazing vel.
The hype I refer to is that most 50cal talk of vel. at the muzzle
not during flight path of the projectile. But Its ok I guess thats why they make choc. & vanilla. Again this is just the way I see it.

Nope, you have me lost. I have been shooting ML a long time and don't have a clue what you are saying. From sidelocks to 45's to pistols to 54cal. I have a feeling, not sure, that alot of people don't know what you are talking about.

Lots of KE info about everywhere you look from Hornady to Barnes, to PR bullets. Load data everywhere has it. My barnes, and nosler manuals have it. I fairly sure the lymans do. OneShot comes on here from time to time and he discussed it in detail.

There are all kinds of bullets out there where you can shoot a .357", .40" and .429" out of a 50. Like the M1 Abrams, big bore, small projectile, excellent bullistics. Thats the whole concept of the sabot design.

With my load kicking out a 245gr barnes bullet at 2100fps, I have 1600ft/lbs of energy at 100 yards and well over 1000ft/lbs at 200.

With a 45 kicking out a 195gr barnes expander, you would have to launch that badboy at 2500fps to match that at 100 and 200. Which I have yet to see.

And not to mention 90% of all ML shots are usually under 100 yards. Sooooo, which way is the hype again?

I don't think the demise of the 45cal inline is from performance problems, I believe its availability of supplys and a wait and see mentality of ML shooters. I believe T/C won't be offerining its 45 cal inline next year.

I mean if performance was a concern, the 52 cal knight has a great story. But they sure ain't flying off the shelfs.

Well big country you may have a point. I'm sorry if you got lost
while trying to understand my reply on hype. I to have shot ML's
for a long long time, in fact bought my first one in kit-form from
Dixie Gunworks in 1969 when I got home from two tours in
Viet Nam. I am now a hydrological engineer for the state of KY.
I am also a graduate of Army sniper school so shooting for me
is and was a way of life. If you had trouble with the energy
transference of a given projectile I'm sorry did not mean to
mislead. But if the figures you gave are correct, and I assume
they are, then the pressure generated must have been off the chart. Good luck, God Bless no harm meant.

Well as a fellow engineer, Electrical/Fiber Engineer, from the state of KY, Eastern Ky that is, I am using 130gr loose 777 or 3 777 pellets. I don't have a pressure transducer or peizo setup but pressure is supposed to well below 25K according to many sources. And knight said thats safe. I hope. I won't go above 130gr loose 777 ffg.

I use my chronograph and sierra 5th edition infinity software. I took the BC numbers from the Barnes webside so I assume they are correct.

I've had the Knight .45 for about 5-6 years. I've worked up a load that is a tack driver out to 125yrds. Next year I'm workin on 150yrd+ shots. I'm in a shotgun only state,so this gun is my long range weapon of choice. Its a very fast,flat shootin round. As somebody said "Shotplacement Rules". Knock on wood - I've never had a deer move farther than 25 yrds after a shot with the ole .45.
