I haven't used any, but have been hearing a lot about them. Will be very interested in what you find out.

RE: 300 grain dead center effectiveness on deer
newman1,
As they say just my 2 cents - but I think 300 grain saboted bullet are a little heavy for any deer. They certainly would be effective. I use 300 grain bullets for elk but I do back down to 260 grain bullets for deer. Flatter longer and faster with plenty of energy for deer. If you go down to a 44 caliber bullet you will get even better ballistics. PR tends to inflate their BC, BC is a coefficient of velocity and they tend to advertise the the BC out of the muzzle instead of the average over the range of reducing velocity. Again just my 2 cemts |

Read good reports (alot of exits) with the 340 45/50 and the 260 40/50 poster Sabotloader mentioned above this post. The best "accuracy" posts I've read were on the 220 40/50 grainers. For 1/2 the price/removing the tip, the best buy in Precision bullets is the almost dead-ringer Dead Center without the tip called the Extreme Elite. The sabot/bullet are from 275 gr to 360 gr. The bulk prices are
048 - $29.95 120 - $62.95 240 - $89.95 Precision Extreme Elite HP |
RE: 300 grain dead center effectiveness on deer
When I called PR, they suggested since I was shooting whitetails, I should try their 200gr Dead Center. I took that advice, even though I thought a heavier bullet would be better. Well, because I was short on time, I stuck two pellets ( I prefer loose powder. ) and a 200gr DC in my Encore and made smoke. Five shots in a two inch group at 100 yds was good enough but I still think I can do better fine tuning a loose load. And the deer I shot with the 200.... Well, on a head-on hit in the chest at 50 yds the deer was knocked off it's feet and didn't require any tracking. Get the picture? I will be using the DC's for a long time. Oh, and they load easy too! Jim
