Scope protection

I have a remington 700ML with a scope mounted on it. My question is does anybody make a cover for the bottom of the scope to protect it from the ignition?

Hey Brasskeeper,

Yep, there are covers available at many online supplies outlets (Cabela's and so on) or your local ML store.

Some folks use tape, but I don't as I have issue with putting electrical or duct tape on optics that I've spent several hundred dollars on. :)

There are also covers available for the breach that you may find hand for inclement weather.

Brass, do you use #11 caps or did you purchase a 209 primer adapter? If using the #11 caps, just use the weather shroud that came with the rifle. I use mine all the time, even at the range. Remington says to use it just in the field, but I have put hundreds of shots through my gun with no ill effects. Just make sure you disassemble the bolt and thoroughly clean after each use (which you should do anyway).

I got a piece of camo fleece and had my wife sew velcro strips to it to hold it on the scope. Not only does it protect my scope but with fleece being water resistant (not waterproof), it helps shade the top of my rifle where the primer is located from light rain. I'm shooting a Ruger 77/50 that looks exactly like your Remington in design.

I believe T/C is or was making these scope protectors.I bought a couple a few years ago. I'm almost positive it was T/C who made them. There is really nothing to them.Like Graveyard said they are easy to make. You could take thin leather and make them as nice as the commericial ones are.If I recall they were close to 10 bucks each.

BDHUNTR I'm still using the #11 caps I have nver converted. What are the advatages to converting to 209? Would it help with this problem?

I want to thank everybody for the input/advice, it sure is helpful.:)

Hi brasskeeper,
Check out the thread "remington 700 ml".
I'm still shooting with the #11 cap, but several folks have gone with the 209 conversion.
Good info in that thread.
